I use adblock for one reason: Youtube started playing audio ads without user interaction, on tabs that had been open fo quite some time. Every other site is collateral damage, I'm afraid; it's not worth my effort to figure out how to switch

It should be noted that the author of the article has moved to Japan; this may complicate any enforcement action, unless his company is incorporated in the US.

Notability is a bit of a misnomer. It's really a way to gauge one extremely important factor: Is it possible to verify the content of this article as correct? Let's look at the general notability guideline (WP:GNG): > If a topic has rec

I think that, when it comes to deletion, Wikipedia _shouldn't_ care about the opinion of people who aren't "committed contributers". Why? Well, even if the article is undeleted (or not deleted in the first place), it still has problems with

S3 doesn't support continual logging - you need to decide on a file size up-front. Are you creating a new object for each log entry, or is there a window in which commits can be lost before the log gets flushed out, or do you have some othe

ARIN assignments aren't enforced by any kind of automated means. If ARIN tells some Canadian company, "Sorry, SOPA says we have to kill your assignment", and the Canadian company says "Thanks, but we'll keep using 123.89.12.0/24 anyway", it

It's not clear if IP addresses are 'assets'. The only thing keeping Microsoft from picking up IPs arbitrarily is the fact that their BGP peers will blacklist those ranges if they do something disruptive like that. If ARIN or the IANA declar

Every bank I've ever tried bill pay on (ING, Bank of America, E*Trade bank, Citizens Bank, Kennebunk Savings Bank) offers an option where you simply enter the account number and bill address, and they cut a check for it. No hassle. Maybe tr

Linux does this too, but unconditionally: http://lxr.linux.no/linux+v3.1.1/include/linux/jiffies.h#L16... Note that this particular timer is not directly exposed to userspace, however.

It's true that DNSSEC isn't a cure-all - but it's better than a third-party SSL CA. As-is, Libya can still control bit.ly's TLS key by changing bit.ly's NS records over to servers under their control, picking a random CA and having it auto-

No, the problem is with x86-64, which apparently doesn't use `rep movsl`; as far as I can tell, GCC's x86-64 backend assumes that SSE will be available, and so only has a SSE inline memcpy. However, in the kernel SSE is not available (as SS

I don't know where you got that header; S3 returns Server: AmazonS3 and http://aws.amazon.com returns Server: Server. I would suspect a lot of their backend services use custom HTTP servers, and maybe a small handful actually use apache.

The xorl is one byte smaller, and can be faster. On modern CPUs it's more about the compactness of code than speed, but on some embedded CPUs you can save a cycle or two this way.

It should be noted that smartphone adoption in Japan is rather low, and keyboard phones are quite rare. Usually there will be a separate website for PCs and not-so-smart phones. So there's a good reason to use QR codes there, even if it jus

Bitcoin is already not legal tender. Legal tender means you are _obligated_ to accept it as payment for a debt (eg, in the US, a lender cannot refuse a payment on a debt in dollar bills). It does not _necessarily_ mean that non-legal tender

Maybe, but you still need to avoid invoking the dynamic linker while inside the dynamic linker. And you don't want the code you call inside the solib invoking malloc again either.

Unfortunately, it's not race-free - if the target's already inside malloc, Bad Things will happen. A better strategy would be to invoke clone() to spin up a worker thread, somehow finagle a TLS segment good enough to fool libc and dlopen in
