Median suffers from the very real (ie, seen in a test flight ) problem where one side of the plane can give bad data to two ADIRUs, so that's out. Supposedly there's a new system being deployed via a software update (see 7.1.1) that does m

If your CRC generator gets damaged, then it will produce values that are inconsistent with the CRC checker, which is in another piece of equipment. At which point your component gets kicked out of the system entirely, and all is well. Note

The article summarizes the report a bit badly. With most ADIRU inputs, each flight computer independently samples all three ADIRUs, and takes the median value. It also looks for outliers - if an ADIRU input falls far out of line with the ot

First, the black box doesn't actually do anything safety-critical. It's a pure data recorder, and only comes into play _after_ an accident. You're thinking more of the flight control computers, as well as the air data inertial reference uni

What, exactly, is the 'service' that needs to be paid for? Is it the creation of the work in the first place? I have no problem with artists having the right to stop producing works if they're not paid. Or is it the replication of the work?

Those 'five days' and 'another day or two' could easily include time spent waiting on a queue, of course. In which case, it could be only a few tens of minutes of actual time would be spent on the report.

Presumably power and/or network connectivity are more expensive, and they have to pass on the prices. Also, given the high cost of disks these days, it's not surprising EBS prices would be high in a newly opened region...

A loan is a transfer of risk, and a way to engage in growth faster than otherwise possible. Without loans (or investments, which are similar but involve a greater transfer of risk), any new venture would need to first save enough money to a

This actually doesn't work for processes using stderr on eglibc 2.13 - fprintf internally outputs via a different path that can't be hooked in this manner. On x86, you could try overwriting the system call gate pointer to a hook function, b

If you split stdout and stderr, you can end up with the order of output changing - your output process might not get around to reading its input ends until it has data at both, and then it can't tell which is which.

Or use writev for that matter. Note that using ordinary write multiple times has atomicity implications - if you have multiple processes writing to STDERR, you might find their output interleaved in unfortunate ways. Using a single write wi

To be honest, I don't think it really matters. The point is, Universal is blocking access to content they (allegedly - I don't know if the artists involved have copyright assignment agreements or something) don't own. Whether or not this wa

According to the article's timeline, dual pitot failure occurred at about 02:10:06. Recovery of one pitot occurred at 02:10:36, and the other at around 02:11:03. That's about 30 seconds to recover one pitot, and 57 seconds to the recovery o

According to the article, the pitots did, in fact, de-ice and return to normal functioning. However, apparently the alternate law needs to be manually reset, since the plane remained in direct input mode, and thus the pilots managed to stal

Most open source licenses don't forbid 'mere bundling' with some other software, even if said other software is Evil. Most likely download.com just doesn't want to have to deal with source distribution requirements from GPL/LGPL software.

I think the real problem here is there's no visibility in what CIQ is actually sending, and so no way to verify their claims. Additionally, even if they don't intentionally send all that excess data up to their servers, it's still getting l

Moving the electrical generation to a central point allows you to build more sustainable power plants that only really work at scale - just try building a windmill on a single car, or a nuclear plant that can fir in your trunk.
