~12yr PM here - curious how you teach interactions with Eng, Design and other disciplines (at Facebook, we call this 'Leadership and Drive'). This has always been the toughest area for me to teach and I'm wondering if you can

A good friend is one of the organizers of the Cornell Tech program and he pulled together a ton of great PM's and Eng's from NYC to get feedback and idea when designing the program. Glad to hear that the program is going well :D

I'm into the idea (I currently use Ia writer saving to a folder in Dropbox). Is there a desktop client or only the web version?

This is super cool - I see designers struggle with this at every company and am a huge fan of tooling that make design/eng collaboration better.

(Note: I agree w/ the OP + commenter whole-heartedly) The other counter-example I can think of is Myspace who frequently had tons of server errors and page load errors alongside failing to iterate their product rapidly.

Forgot to add - many larger companies offer a junior pm program to help people transition into a PM role. I work at oculus and we participate in Facebook's 'rotational pm (rpm)' program. Applicants have little to no product e

Almost every PM I've met has an odd/alternative background but the consistent traits I see are: 1. Curiosity 2. The ability to think in a structured/organized way 3. A clear understanding of users, their problems, and how to

Also a Texan who lived in NYC :D and now lives in the bay area. I'm constantly amazed that we haven't placed a solid, high speed rail throughout this area. Housing costs are skyrocketing and you have people who work for all ends o

I think this article is missing the idea of the browser hype cycle (Every 4-5 years): 1. A cool new browser comes along promising a minimal featureset with a focus on speed. 2. Early adopters make the move and start asking for a few feature

People want better battery life just like they wanted faster horses. What they really want is to never have to charge their devices again or worry about a battery. This company is aiming at the core problem, not just a symptom created by cu

I would much rather see 10 million put towards an idea that most people think is impossible but could dramatically change the way we experience the world than another photo sharing network.

Whatever happens with your game, I hope you realize that a lot of people enjoy what you've built. You are bringing good stuff into this world and the world is a better place because you're here. If you ever start to feel down or l

This is a great idea. I've been working from Sardegna (an island off the coast of Italy/Spain) and have barely been able to hold a skype connection to my office in NYC, even from most big cities. I would have loved if someone went

My wife and I own a salon in New York City. We're looking for someone to help work on our salon software which was built a few years ago in PHP. Do you know how to code or have any inclination to learn? We could start with something sm

Agreed. I'm approaching this thinking that the exit points can be backbone providers and we could build simple software to enable users to pay for the bandwidth (to the exit) that they've utilized. Connectivity within the network

This is the approach I've been thinking of. Launching a mesh in a specific area near a backbone provider where you could cut a deal for reasonable internet connectivity. As the mesh expands, users (in theory) pay less and less, especia

Question: If you assume that at some point (until it becomes ubiquitous), the mesh network must connect to existing broadband providers for bandwidth, how could you avoid charging? I'm not suggesting profiting off of users, but rather

I'm incredibly interested in the challenges you guys faced - the mesh network and view source parts of OLPC were (to me) the most important and life-changing aspects. Bummed to hear that one of them at least was problematic. Was there

this is true :) technically I haven't seen 70% of movies that were released this year. Will update the above comment once I've seen Computer Chess, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

I would argue that Her is the best movie this year about technology. It shows how HUGE the impact on relationships could be without ever focusing on the technology itself. I'll have to watch Computer Chess and compare.

I have the developer prototype and I am hugely excited for the short term gaming and entertainment potential. However, as a working device, something needs to be solved to reduce eye strain. After using it for 5-10 minutes, I feel like I&#x

Interesting, they're using 3DSystems' Visijet material which is approved for use in 'guides.' I wonder if they're safe to put in your mouth every day? Very few 3D Printing materials are actually safe for consumption
