I think it depends largely on age - “new builds” (1980s onwards) often have a brick partition wall down the middle and the rest plaster/wood stud. The last couple of houses (significantly older) I’ve lived in have been pretty much all

What is your house built of? In the UK, we’ve got houses with brick walls everywhere - it’s killer for signal.

I think I’m one of the few that have had great luck with it. We’ve got an outbuilding which is on a separate circuit than the ring main in the house which has the other end. It still gets a solid 120mbps and no meaningful packet loss, dropo

Everyone I’ve owned (Netgear, Devolo, TPLink) has had the encryption for the set pre set up, beyond that it’s a hold the button down on each half job. The encryption / pairing is part of the base standard(s) (home plug and the other on

The analog speedometer it replaced has been digital behind the scenes for ages. The cluster is just sat on a CAN (or similar) bus and controlling a servo for the analog gauge. The pure digital speedometer is significantly less failure prone

Unless everything is fairly old, that must take some doing. Everything on my desk is USB C. Both keyboards, Logitech mouse, phone, dev kits / boards, both work and personal laptops (PD charging, personal only uses USB C). I’m getting u

This is one of my main concerns. I hope I’m somewhat more protected as I’ve been paying for google one for quite some years (so at least has some financial link to me also, and supposedly better support to go with it).

I rather like google photos. Is there a good reason I shouldn’t? We pay for 2TB usage for the family photos on all our phones, it works great.

“Charging-company executives I spoke to think the Tesla network will have trouble supporting many different EV models” Feels like something they would say.

I think that’s part of the idea of the whole VAG group though. The A6/Passat/Superb are all the same platform tweaked slightly for people trying to achieve different things. I’d say it’s a great setup.

I suspect the CTO ones aren’t really CTO at all, leading to the limited selection.

How come not true? My 3L A6 Quattro did more than 400mls on a tank of you were careful. That’s normal territory for European cars.

What SUV is more comfortable than its wagon or saloon equivalent? I’d definitely rather be sat in a 5 series than an X5.

I’m all for fewer people driving them (most are just lifted versions of normal cars now, but more uncomfortable and inefficient), but I’m very sure messing essential safety features (correctly pressurised tyres) is not how you get that poin

If you’ve got solid WiFi at home, it’s worth having it on even when home. It’s generally better than the cell. (Especially if you’ve got FTTP)

I’m not sure that’s true at all. With WiFi on and connected, it uses WiFi calling which uses way less power than LTE. WiFi uses next to no power when it’s not passing data. The power saving extensions to it are pretty good, and coalesce tra

Yep. We don’t need the gigabit down, we need the 100 up that comes with it. Openreach seem to sell about 10% of the download as the upload.

Yeah I can imagine that’s an incredibly niche setup. Maybe if you were editing on the go or similar, but even then, TB drives seems like a more pragmatic choice.

There was a chrome plugin, “Recipe Filter” which produced a beautiful recipe card to print or read from whatever site you threw at it. It worked really well. The author got tonnes of backlash/abuse from people writing recipe sites.

I don’t get it on the Mac (mind I also need to use 3rd party window management / snapping tools here), but it seems to work well now the iPad has really good extended display support.
