My standard interface is a finicky touchpad. Has been for ~30 years & half a dozen microwaves.

Are we (HN), the intended demographic though? I personally get twitchy whenever I see a facebook or twitter link, but I also know that the times are changing, so I withhold my angry rants.

Please, for the ignorant (no offense intended, as I am an entrenched member), can you more precisely/consisely explain your critiques? The reasons behind your "chills" are foreign to me. My intuition often betrays my experien

Moore's Law isn't exactly scientific... It's more like a Nostradamus-esque good guess. Counter-arguments can be just as lazy without deserving unrestrained criticism, I suppose.

Are all those actions considered "chat" features? I am probably old fashioned, but I prefer separation of services. If a taxi driver was on IRC, sure, I could "hail" him. I could post my current GPS location to anyone I

So, before knowing there was reliable data, you constantly made unfounded claims? You made a good guess. Is that something to brag about? An opinion that you feel the need to "constantly explain to people" borders on ranting... (a

Would you not align it parallel with the equator, and therefore get a more squished (horizontally compressed) time display?

A firewall cannot see encrypted layer-7 traffic, true, but you can block sites by IP/hostname. HTTPS does not help you circumvent firewalling.

Plausible, but is it probable? I have no clue how blindly political the internal bureaucracy of the company is. Sure, the recruiter might be sane, but that is possibly only a small part of what gets me hired or rejected.

Can you more precisely describe why it is incorrect? Both implementations requests data from the network stack, so both are very similar?

I highly doubt it. I use AdAway for Android, and my current (/system)/etc/hosts file is 58626 lines with no noticeable lag on my Nexus 7 2012 and my Nexus 9. I would assume local IO would usually beat network IO.

Yeah, but that was for a message sent across a distance of ~1 billion light-years. I naively assume that shorter distances would require less energy.

Your post was motivating enough to singularly encourage me to read the actual article. Truly, thank you for that. (Though, the article is a bit above my pay-grade... oh, the pain.)

Look at nature. Sometimes the male is dominant, sometimes the female is dominant (or whatever feature you want to focus on). We are different. There is nothing wrong with that.
