Certification might be less heavy handed and flexible. It keeps control within the industry and out of gov't where there can be lots of other inefficiency and conflicting interests. Laws also tend to be very slow to change (software m

Licensing is not the solution. Here are some things that can help: 1) Limit mutations, shared state, and side effects to very small sections of code. The majority of code should be pure functions and immutable code. 2) Tooling and IDE'

I tend towards freedom of speech more than most. I can understand an argument that says calling someone is freedom of speech. I don't think this violates that though. Of course, it will all depend on the actual implementation. A goo

Yes, that would probably be a good thing. They seriously need to fix the problem of being able to listen to other people's voicemail by merely setting the caller id to the target's cell number and calling them.

How will this be implemented from a technology and policy perspective? The idea is one I am definitely supportive of. My phone rarely comes out of DnD now because of the robocallers. But the devil is in the details. Forcing people to add

It is difficult to come up with concrete examples of category theory because it is too high up the abstraction hierarchy. It normally requires stepping through several layers of abstraction to reach something concrete. Monads are one speci

I've come to the conclusion that microservices work for large organizations where division of labor is important but for small development teams it actually makes things worse. What once was just a function call now becomes an API call

Granting a license to software that a company has invested millions of dollars in takes less than 10 minutes as well, but that doesn't mean they are obligated to give it to anyone who might find it useful for free. Sunk cost is an ort

I didn't use any library. Seemed easy enough to just create a few helpers. I rely on Firebase completely for the data. Since Firebase already keeps a local client cache as well as an offline cache, I didn't see any need to main

I've been using Firestore in a React app and I love how it has simplified everything. There's no need to have redux or even an in-memory store in the "context". I just wrap my components with a withFSQuery helper and i

I wouldn't say number of patents filed is a good metric for innovation. Patents are more in line with the most bureaucratic and litigious.

1) WTF, FB? Don't go around violating license terms. 2) Why do developers tolerate a platform that doesn't allow developers to deploy apps wherever they want?

The HSR might make jobs more viable for people living outside the bay area, but it will make things worse for people living within the bay area. The last proposed plan would have the HSR running over 100 MPH less than 100 feet from my bed
