Depends on your area of focus. Schools tend to be much more focused on the academic / math than practical application development. CS isn't as critical until you have to worry about efficiency, scale, or creating radically novel

I think it varies. There are a large class of landlords that will favor longer term tenants because it is lower risk / less hassle. There are also many cases where renting long term is more profitable as well if the home can't be

There are already laws and rights for tenants that are based on how long they have stayed at a place, whether they have received mail there, pay for utilities there, etc. Generally speaking, the more you are a full time tenant for a longer

Why should they be prioritized? That seems rather subjective and dependent on who you are. An argument could be made that it takes supply from the short term side and artificially drives up the cost of hotels. Why not let supply / d

This is a fairly recent and controversial change to the word. It was updated officially in the dictionary after people kept misusing the word. So now it means both literally and the complete opposite of literally.

What is the motivation for this law? Why is SF regulating the length of stay or rentors at all? Seems like a gross violation of freedom and property rights. Zoning I can understand but duration? This seems like a bad law.

It's not so much utility as it is addiction. A lot of the popular platforms are implemented to take advantage random reinforcement / variable reward schedules, social approval, ego validation, etc.

I'd be curious to see what effect this has on business models. A lot of useful features are free because they can make money on the backend or through paid promotions (search, email). Take away that ability and a lot of the services p

I normally like what "Uncle Bob" has to say but I do not agree with a lot of what he says in the article. > Objects are bags of functions, not bags of data. That might be an ideal case, but it is not reality. Pretty much every

In theory, yes, but in the case of GraphQL, I found it was very difficult to generate schemas dynamically. Factoring out common fields was not possible. Common fields in schemas had to be duplicated and there was no concept of an include&

Can people share their experience and success stories with gRPC and/or GraphQL? I've tried both in the past and found that APIs are rarely as static as typed API systems require. Many APIs have fields that are required conditiona

Is it just capital gains? Wondering if it applies to any other forms of active or passive income. How are profits from these investments treated? Can you "swap til you drop" like with a 1031 exchange?

Agreed. Critical thinking is becoming a lost art that we should not use "workarounds". Also, who gets to decide what is true? Silicon Valley tech employees lean overwhelming to the left. How do you remove this bias? But really,

I've done extended water fasting several times. 5-days, 7-days, 10-days, 17-days. It's MUCH easier for me to fast for 7-days than do 7 24-hour fasts. I feel much less hunger and fatigue when doing extended. All the negative ex

How did you control for these things? Wondering what patterns there are that people use to prevent social discrimination. Seems challenging since much of AI, especially classification, is essentially a discrimination algorithm.
