Why am I not seeing anything here about ctags[0] or cscope[1]? Are they that out of fashion? cscope language comprehension appears limited to C/C++ and Java, but “ctags” (I think I use “uctags” atm) language support is quite broad and

I’ve been waiting to see ‘luckydude weigh in, but here he is by proxy. When some time ago he and I talked about this (here, or on #Tcl), the thing I recall most from our conversation is “Tichy pulled the wool over our eyes.”

everything has a string rep available. It used to be that every thing was also represented literally by a string. So, for pedagogical purposes, a value 1 would be "1", and to do math, Tcl would do a strtol(val_storage), with the

I was a little disappointed DTrace[0] was not mentioned at all. The instrumentation (not the SDN) isn’t novel, not even to Linux (DTrace is available on Linux - I understand licensing is at least questionable (for some distros), but that as

Sort of happy to see m4 mentioned, but for the uninitiated: m4 is the receiver of an awful lot of hate, because things can get unwieldy quickly. Go in with your eyes open.

Richard Suchenwirth (@suchenwi in #tcl on Libera irc) is alive and well and present. And yes, impressive developer[0]. Also agree largely on “Tcl C style” - historically well ordered, coherent codebase. [0] https://wiki.tcl-lang.
