I’d be interested to hear from people currently working w OpenGL in any capacity - what does all this mean in 2021 wrt Vulkan? By way of example, Wayland is ~12 years old , and in my (BSD) world, just starting to become interesting to me.

This is what I love about OpenBSD (as an observer, and being adjacent via NetBSD) - in surprising ways, when they want something, they leap on it. Forefront of wireless chips, accelerated gfx (perplexing to me, but happily so), and now this

Also if firewalling/packet filtering was a consideration, ipfw was (is?) leaps and bounds nicer to work with than ipchains/iptables. This (c. FreeBSD 4.x) is what introduced me to FreeBSD.

I recently got excited about OpenMP[0], which seems to let one take advantage of threads while handling some of the drudgery of setup in common patterns. [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenMP Edit: add link

I think part of what you’re qualifying as “and yet...” may be exactly what GP is talking about. They worry less and get on with things, comfortable that they can, rather than harming themselves with 1000 “economical” cuts. See too the boo

The syntax of Tcl is bog-simple, and it’s entire operational description fits in a simple man page[0]. The flexibility can certainly be abused, though that’s not strictly the fault of Tcl. [0] https://www.tcl-lang.org/man&#x
