Do you not work face-to-face (or back-to-back) with your team members? Over the summer I worked for a company of a few hundred people that didn't use project management software (except when contracted externally) because if you needed some

I was hoping that Python threads split across processors, but it seems that they don't. Is there a language that does it "automagically" without having to explicitly code it?

I've written a simulator that seems to fit with intuition, but you guys might want to check out my code ( http://scripts.mit.edu/~bcater/prisoners_code.php ). It gives me just under 10,000 operations, on average.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that question. If you mean "Should it be obvious to me how you're providing me with social news?", then the answer is that it doesn't matter so long as your algorithm gives me something that I want

I've implemented bibliographies and uploads, plus a basic template. Let me know if you think of anything else, and thanks a bunch for the feedback.

I like mzscheme (a variant of Scheme, which is a variant of Lisp), but Python is growing on me. When I need database interactions, I use PHP, and when I want neat effects, I use javascript.

I talked about a variation of this idea with pg, and he brought up some important points. First, who uses enterprise software like distributed computing? Outside of research, it's people unlike us, so what do we know about them? Pretty much

Someone is going to change the model of how we interact with computers. Keyboards are good, mice are good, big plasma screens are really good, but what's next? Is there a faster or more efficient or more enjoyable way to interact with compu

I once worked on a small software project with two other people, and because the requirements and restrictions were so rigid, we didn't have to do much more than work out a UI - the system itself was pretty straightforward to implement. Thu
