A lot of people here are assuming that NVIDIA doesn’t do 1:1s because Jensen doesn’t do them. This is wrong. I’m Org3 (Jensen is Org1, so I’m one level below Jensen but don’t report to him). I have regular scheduled 1:1s with my Org2 manage

I don’t know why this journalist says the industry needs to “level” with consumers about the death of Moore’s law. NVIDIA has been announcing the end of Moore’s law at least since 2017 [1]. [1] https://www.techspot.com/news&

I'd say the anecdote about Sarah Palin saying "I can see Russia from my house" is related. Plenty of Americans think she actually said it even though it came from SNL. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/sa

The article states that storing 10kWh of electricity with this will take 45m3 of concrete, weighing 110 megagrams. One Tesla Powerwall takes 0.127m3, weighs 0.114 megagrams, and stores 13.5 kWh. Now of course the attraction of this energy s

I find the description of alcohol as something that "stupefies" rather reductive. People are often louder, more expressive and more interesting when they've had a drink. The opposite of catatonic. Now it's true that over

I have wondered this myself and I think the answer is that American universities want to discriminate based on wealth. They actually want the richest kids possible going to their schools. Their business model depends on it.

The people who oppose nuclear power always point to the construction cost and long delays. BUT. The reason for the long and expensive construction has a lot to do with the people opposing the construction! We could build these reactors so m

Does anyone know whether this training run used FP16 or BF16? This GPU has tensor cores which dramatically accelerate DL - if they are being used. The post doesn’t mention it.

We can't even keep normal roads free of potholes, how would we ever maintain electrified highways. Also the waste inherent to inductive charging would eat in to the carbon emissions benefits we're hoping to get from electric cars

I’m not sure if I can think, despite having a PhD in EECS. We humans prize our ability to think very highly but it’s a nebulous concept. I believe these models will get much better at simulating “thinking” in the next few years, and we so
