This is a strange blog post. Their tables say: Cerebras yields 46225 * .93 = 43000 square millimeters per wafer NVIDIA yields 58608 * .92 = 54000 square millimeters per wafer I don't know if their numbers are correct but it is a strang

Anyone else found it odd that the article says "For all the improvements evident in contemporary surgical technology, electron microscopic images actually confirm that the edge of Neolithic obsidian blades exceed today’s steel scalpels

I feel like I pay a lot for news. I pay for: * WSJ * NYTimes * Economist * LATimes * SJ Mercury News * Apple News And yet I constantly run into paywalls (which I circumvent). How much per month does the news industry think is fair for me to

This is why my next car won’t be a Tesla (after driving one for the past 8 years). It’s sad, they get so many things right but they are dangerously irresponsible.

Maybe the best benefit of LLM as a search engine is that they haven't figured out yet how to serve you 10 ads before they give you the link.

The point is: if you sue claiming this model breaks the law, you lose your license to use it. Apache 2.0 has a similar restriction: “ If You institute patent litigation against any entity (including a cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsui

I was at NVIDIA at that time working on ML on GPUs. Jensen is indeed a visionary. It’s true as you point out that NVIDIA paid attention to what its customers were doing. It’s also true that Ian Buck published a paper using the GPU for neura

So much random numbers and units and so little critical thinking or understanding. Frustrating. Journalists fail basically every time they write.

People have been saying that GPUs randomly happened to be good at ML since at least 2014 when Nervana was founded. It was clear 12 years ago to anyone paying attention that DL was revolutionizing the world and that NVIDIA GPUs were at the c

GW or GWh??? I’m guessing they are talking about GW but that is such a frustrating unit to measure storage in. It’s like measuring your gas tank in gallons/minute. Yes, power capacity matters, but energy is conserved and power is not.

GPUs have evolved to be AI machines with as little baggage as possible. People have been arguing GPUs were old technology and therefore unsuited for AI since at least 2014 (when Nervana was founded), but what they perhaps didn’t expect is t

The article says "battery storage capacity" - the plaintext reading of this is referring to energy and they messed up the units. As per usual.

Inches are metric as well in that definition. Just meters multiplied by a constant. 3600 seconds in an hour. 39.3700787402 inches in a meter. Next you'll be telling me pounds are more convenient than kilograms.

It says "battery storage capacity". They're talking about energy and using the units for power.

Of all the non-metric units in use today, watt-hours has to be the worst. It causes so much confusion. A Pulitzer Prize winning institution reporting on our climate and energy crisis can’t get it right: “Over the past three years, battery s

The graph he shows assumes a strict exponential growth. It's rather hilarious to see a projection that assumes a phenomenon will be at its fastest rate of change when it hits the strict limit (100% of the population). If he would proje

Generally I agree but Sequoiadendron wood is famously unsuitable for construction. It’s brittle and shatters easily. Not the same as Sequoia wood, which is famously wonderful for construction!

It also doesn’t say how many giant sequoias are in CA. They do grow when planted in CA as well outside their native range. The native giant sequoias live on a tiny fraction of CA’s area, maybe 1%.

The amount of ink that goes into the skin is tiny - maybe a gram of ink for a normal size tattoo. So when they get upset about ethanol or even propylene glycol - I wouldn't think the amounts are large enough to be very significant. Whe
