I mentioned RoR, because that was what I've used in my previous project. RoR's learning curve is much more higher than Tornado. I don't even think that is fair to compare those two. IMHO, RoR is more suitable for apps that requires lots of

Hacker news has a format for this Show HN: Zurker.in - An alternative Social Networking site and I don't believe it's gaining popularity like Pinterest. The project name smells too much related to Zuckerberg

My co-founder was very experienced in php, so we said, lets find the middle and pick Python. Of course that's not the only reason. Python has great packages text processing (esp NLTK) and we really liked the simplicity

As you might know, without committed users Twitter would not have # tag and @ sign. They have talked with their users at one point. They don't have an option. You have to. What their advantage right now, Facebook already have 3200+ employee
