Need to be careful that Docker and LXC both default to unprivileged, however they use the term to mean different things. If you say “don’t run your containers as root on the host”, this matches the issue better.

In the version of history I remember, x86 won because it was 2-5 times cheaper than RISC for the same performance, then in performance per Watt once that became the limiting factor. All devs had SPARC machines and no intention to move to x8

Most consumer routers will by default block a connection _from_ the Internet. They use a private address range and apply NAT to outgoing connections, so explicit configuration is needed to do something with an incoming connection.

Kubernetes has a “-system-reserved” flag for that purpose. Limits are something else entirely.

Sounds like a Kubernetes resource request, rather than a limit.

What’s your reasoning? From my experience, a memory limit, if hit, will cause periodic OOM and restart; and a CPU limit will cause slowing-down of the processes. The tale already mentions restarting and slowing-down; it’s not clear to me th

There are two sets of settings for auto-scaling reads and writes, but you can turn them both on. Or you can turn on the very recent “on-demand pricing” and not worry about capacity settings.

Possibly. But my understanding of “the concept of OOP” involves a separate identity for each object. Suppose the thing you are dealing with is “Customers”, then with OOP each Customer is a separate object, while with MSOP you must communica

Something missing from this story. If ‘9’ gets you an outside line, then you miss the ‘0’, the number seen by the telco starts ‘11...’ Maybe the pbx is programmed to recognise ‘911’ and dial that, without requiring an outside line?

Brad Cox described this in “Object-oriented Programming”, a book I first read in 1989. Building applications. simply by plugging together off-the-shelf components remains a beautiful vision, and it is almost entirely unrealised 30 years on.

I used to ask this (cycles in linked list) question all the time, and I found it useful as a way to see how the candidate worked through an unfamiliar problem. No-one gave the 2-pointer answer, ever. For me it wasn’t a pass/fail “do yo

Cortex also uses gorilla-inspired compression, using the Prometheus source code. After compressing timeseries they are stored and indexed using a database-like thing, typically DynamoDB or Bigtable, but soon BoltDB will be an option. (I am

[Note I work on Weave Net] When we ran a similar test we got 3.75Gbit/sec; the figure in this article is closer to what we got in our "slow mode" which is used as a fall-back when it can't get the in-kernel path to work.

That calculation only works if you can spread your workload over ten minutes in the hour. If you want to get it done in ten seconds, then you don’t have any more to do for the next hour, then on-demand is much better.
