In my experience, Algebraic types alone take some work to get used to using competently. That's just one F# uniqueness and there are others. Learning Elm (a similar language) definitely made me a better engineer, but I really don'

Yes, but "just don't do that" doesn't scale to large teams with varying levels of experience and discipline. It sounds like you have rules that even you disobey on this project.

I don't know about a paradigm shift, but the craziest use of them I've seen is https://github.com/jhbrown-veradept/gophercon22-parser-combi... . I watched the talk, thought I understood it "enough",

I deleted Instagram a couple of years ago due to privacy concerns (I don't trust Meta) outweighing the value I obtained from using Instagram. So far it's gone well! Occasionally I use the Facebook Container Firefox plugin to check

The reason to try it that I took away was that it's easy to install and then you get all these niceties - LSP, formatter, scripts, with no extra effort! I love that!!!

I just tried ruff last night and ran into the match-case support issue. I'm following https://github.com/charliermarsh/ruff/issues/282 and looking forward to trying ruff again once that issue is closed.

This was just discussed in the Elm Discourse as well: https://discourse.elm-lang.org/t/request-elm-0-19-2-any-upda... This thread (mostly) by current Elm users mostly tracks emotions here on HN

This is a strange take for me- people are CONSTANTLY trying to find new, better ways to do UI. Elm, React, DearIMGUI, Flutter, and Xilem are some of the more well-known fairly recent libraries. See https://raphlinus.github.io

I ameliorate this somewhat with strict CI/CD rules. Black + ruff + mypy can help keep Python sane.

In my experience, Go is really great for writing web backends and CLI tools. Go has replaced Python for me for those use cases and I know it has for others too. I think they've thoughtfully evolved the language (generics took several

Neither Rust nor Go have exceptions at all, and I would consider them "popular" at thos point. To be fair, they each also make you think more about your error handling (there are multiple valid approaches in each language).

I haven't tried this, but I think you can get fairly close by generating the HTTP/SQL serialization code. When I get time I want to write an openapi schema amd generate the server code, write a db schema and generate the db code (

Also see https://directus.io/ - it adds a GUI and a GraphQL API to supported DBs (including SQLite). I'm still playing with it, and I'll add this to the list!
