Often they were programmed in machine code. The BASIC listing was just a tiny loader and the actual program in hexdecimal strings. The loader decoded the strings, poked them into memory and then called the start address.

So .net was a deliberate ruse to trick Borland into delivering a sub-par product? It’s weird because a very common complaint towards .net was that it didn’t allow you to build self-contained stand-alone applications the way VB6 and Delphi a

Yes, in practice it is Microsofts Java: A virtual machine, a set of libraries, and a set of languages (C#, VB.net, F#).

Adding emphasis in a text is also editing, even though the letters are the same.

VB was great though. Maybe the syntax was a bit clunky, but the overall developer experience was far ahead of other languages. Integrated debugger, edit-and-continue, code completion etc.

I dont see how .net was more tightly controlled than VB? VB was a closed source proprietary language tightly integrated with the IDE. They had absolute control.

The problem wasn’t they added more advanced features to the language, the problem was they changed the whole development environment in a backwards-incompatible way.

Yes they exist in numerous editions more or less edited and modernized. While some might like a modernized version, some might prefer or need access to the original text - e.g. the editors creating modernized versions!

Yes that is editing. Modifying a text (whether small or large changes) is called editing. I have no opinion on Cuneiform.

The point is if you have existing JavaScript you want to integrate with TypeScript. You should not need ‘any’ in code written in TypeScript from the beginning.

‘any’ is great for porting javascript into typescript, and integrating with javascript libraries. You can add types gradually, without everything grinding to a halt.

<center> just centered text horizontally. This have been supported by CSS from the beginning. The CSS property display:table gives you the same layout power as tables.

Dijkstra is not just arguing all exits should return to the same point, but also that you shouldn’t enter or exit in the middle of a block. Execution should consist of executing blocks zero or more times, but either fully or not at all. Exi

It is not a problem specific to C. Any language where indents are independt of semantics is prone to this kind of bug.

Interestingly, many seem to want to project their own opinion upon Dijkstra. Dijkstra is clearly arguing for a “single entry single exit” style. But modern consensus seem to uphold single entry but accept multiple exits from a block. Break,

F# has two ways to invoke functions, ‘f a b’ and ‘f(a,b)’. You need to know when to use what. There is no way this is simpler to beginners compared to having one consistent way. C# is not a simple language, but F# has basically all the comp
