This is just the default. Automatic semicolon insertion only happen in specific well-defined cases, for example after the “return” keyword or when an invalid expression can be made valid by semicolon insertion. Neither applies here.

If you remove the analogy to religion I don’t see how any substance remains. For example the essay present subject experts as problematic through the analogy to high priests. But if you remove this analogy it is just common sense that someo

So if some religion claims sunspots does not exist, it would make the existence of sunspots a religious belief?

Yeah it seems like a huge strawman. I’m sure somebody somewhere prays to Albert Einstein but I doubt it is commonplace.

I agree religion is much more than beliefs. Rituals, community, traditions etc is at least as signifiant as beliefs. But by what criteria is “zero gods exist” a religious belief compared to say “phlogiston does not exist”?

That just moves the problem to the definition of “metaphysical”. If a scientific theory is falsifiable, by what definition can it be considered metaphysical?

If you want to argue something is a religion, you need to define “religion”. Often it is defined vaguely enough that anything can be called a religion. But if the word can be applied to everything it is meningless.

The “as” expression is not valid JavaScript anyway, so the default rule for implicit semicolon does not apply. A grammer for type expressions could define if and how semicolons should be inserted.

CSS syntax have specific rules for how to handle unexpected tokens. E.g if an unexpected character is encountered in a declaration the parser ignores characters until next ; or }. But CSS does not have arbitrary nesting, so this makes it ea

Obviously Dylan is political but this does not mean the price was political. The Handke debacle seems a pretty clear indication they evaluate the litterary merit without regard to the politics of the author.

Dylan got the nobel price in litterature, which is awarded for a work of litterature, not for political influence. (Infamously Peter Handke won the litterature price despite his support for Milošević.) You are probably thinking of the peace

But how do you know how long a change “should” take? And how do you know if the rewritten code would be any easier to change? I tend to be sceptical of “rewrite everyting” projects since they are often based on wishful thinking.

It is the same for Safari and Firefox. Browsers never honored the “versions” of HTML (2.0, 3.2, 4.0 etc) but implemented features piecemal. Html 4.0 meticously specified various doctypes and the associated semantics, but no mainstream brows

OK that explanation make the church seem even more moronic that in the usual narrative. Gallileo was certainly correct in calling the pope an idiot, even if it was unwise.

> And the church didn't even care _that_ much. They cared enough to put heliocentric books on the index of forbidded books for centuries. Gallileo might have offended the Pope, but the works of Copernicus was also forbidden.

The hype curve seem to have run its course and we should prepare for the backlash against JSON. SVG often appears embedded in HTML so it makes sense to have it use similar angle-brackets syntax. Unless they also want to recast HTML in JSON

If we draw parallels to history, Gondor is more like Byzantium, and Mordor and the orcs is of course the Turks. Return of the King is a fantasy where Constantinople never falls and instead the Roman empire is reunited and ressurrected. The
