I have a 13 Pro, the small one. It lasts a day fine. Put a TPU case on it and it's not slipperly. I dropped it at least 100 times, once down a mountain in central asia. It's fine. As for battery, stick a powerbank in your bag. Ank

Put a case on it with a lip around the edge. The JETech TPU clear ones are good. I dropped my 13 Pro down a mountain in central asia and it went ping pong ping pong like Homer Simpson falling off a cliff for about 20 seconds. There wasn

Relying on your cloud provider's backup / restore solution is not a backup.

It's fine until Yahoo hellbans you with no recourse for 6 months after sending you a cryptic message in an SMTP response to visit a form and fill it in which you do to the best of your ability. Oh and inevitably there's always som

Google stewardship in action. Can we even go back to Usenet without Google Groups?

I would be embarrassed to publish it in its current state if I’m honest as it was written when I was drunk, cynical and after a breakup. Please take the idea in concept and do a better job that I did!

Sounds like the BBC. I was writing a script a few weeks back that polled BBC articles and does a git commit to a repo every time the text changes. One article had 6 edits within the first 20 minutes of it being published which changed the e

I suspect that the energy cost will be the limiting factor here. Which will constrain models eventually.

I think that's a little hopeful on the basis you can't really buy a used PC laptop and it'll be awesome. I've been trying to do that for 25 years and it has never been awesome. There was an inflection point around 2006 w

You can run this on an M2 Mac Studio. That’ll be consumer level hardware in a few years.

While I appreciate the efforts here which will no doubt extend the life of some of this hardware, I will never use Linux on my M1 Pro MBP if I'm honest. I'm not really a big fan of macOS from a development perspective. But honestl

If I was going to get fired it’d be for telling the truth. Saying no is allowed. If they fire you for telling the truth and there is evidence to support your position then sue the fuck out of them for unfair dismissal. My current company wo

It was also possible to jam the network by futzing with the MC68B54 registers on any beeb. Can’t remember exactly how though as it was so long ago. Also breaking into the clock boxes and setting the rate too high for the cable span.

Quite the opposite here. The IT person, a former mathematics teacher, had no idea about anything so she let us run the old Econet network. They'd send students around with boxes of EPROMs and a screwdriver while she'd sit in her o

It's nothing spectacular yes but if you're due for a replacement then it's a fair value proposition. I've got a 13 Pro which the AppleCare is out on soon. I'm just going to renew that and keep it another year and se

Fairly simple here. Everything goes in iCloud with offline backups via Time machine. Documents are scanned and disposed of where possible - collecting paper is a bad bad bad thing. Identity and required paper documents are kept in a locked

That was exactly my take home from this. Windows has some very serious flaws in it when it comes to data integrity. I do not trust it and do not use it myself.

Depends very much on the problem domain. It's really easy to do this on macOS. So for example I have a top level `Documents/docs` directory. In this everything is recorded in format `yyyy-mm-dd Title.ext` format. I have a saved se

Don't even go there with the symlinks. My mother made a family tree on windows with folders and shortcuts. It broke OneDrive and robocopy completely. I don't even know how to help her fix it.
