It's not very good on node.js code. Hell, it's not very good, period.

Honestly though, I've tried jslint and jshint and a bunch of other lint-like tools on the Haraka source code (google it), and it barfs all over the place for no particular reason. "use strict" is catching a lot more errors, though frustrati

When Virgin Atlantic started their FAs were young and very pleasing to the eye. However they are also unionised, and as such will suffer the same fate as the rest of the airlines.

It's true, a seg/page/fault would take down the whole server, and any requests executing on that process would die too. However in fairness, this is one of the advantages of using a dynamic language, rather than one where you're dealing wit

And yet you describe something which sounds ideally suited to Node (or any evented system) and call it infeasible. Node actually has pretty nice bindings to C (well, really C++), and I see nothing in your post that it would be incapable of.

On the front page? Really? I'd expect that on a more detailed tutorial, but to get people interested in a technology, I completely disagree. You don't see Apple plastering "ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE USA" on their pages about iCloud music storag

The only confusion over the wording on the front page seems to be over: "Almost no function in Node directly performs I/O, so the process never blocks". Which can be correctly read as: "Almost no function in Node directly performs I/O, so t

In fairness the internals of Node get complicated due to cross platform support. The fact that every OS does it differently is both a blessing (because we can learn from mistakes of others) and a curse.

It's partly because of the performance of V8 (my SMTP server, Haraka, is about 8-10 times faster than the Perl version I worked on, Qpsmtpd, for example), and partly because of the "sync library" problem - with Perl (or Python) most librari

So in summary the performance issue was entirely with JSON encoding/decoding.

Because it's 1000 times slower and doesn't have a wealth of libraries available to it, and it isn't finished, and it's not 100% stable.

From looking at it, each twait block is blocking as a unit, but other code elsewhere from the twait block will still run.

1. Squatters are still going to squat. They will continue to squat on the existing gTLDs, and since one of the requirements of the application process is that you can prove you can run a registrar, almost all the new gTLDs will be registrar

Node doesn't implement commonjs. So it should be ignored. It's similar, but different enough that you can ignore it completely.

The plan is to keep the core lightweight. What can be done in an add-on module should be done there. There are a couple of options for this, cluster as linked above, or something like hook.io[1] for erlang-like distribution across N nodes.

How would you define squatting though? It's a really tough issue to legislate.

That works just fine today. Type the name into your address bar and it will either go right there, or google it for you. Technology has made this move by ICANN obsolete. However the big problem is if you're a large company you HAVE to prote

It depends what your clients are doing. I've written perl servers (using epoll) that can cope with 300k concurrent connections, as long as they're not all talking at once. I've written perl servers coping with 50k concurrent connections whe

The way I've heard it argued is that as more and more things happen in the client, you want some level of data validation there. But as we all know, it's not enough to just validate the data in the client - you need to do it on the server
