I posted that response :) The members of MAAWG often keep and talk about these sorts of statistics too, although I wasn't able to find anything public (and I'm no longer a member so can't search the private archives any more)

The ZX80 was even worse. You had to type fast, because the thing overheated real quick, and you couldn't type fast because the keyboard was just terrible. I remember only getting 1 program fully typed before the overheat moment. It ran

This comes down to two key issues in sales: the obvious one is ABC. Always be closing. And if your sales people aren't closing deals then you get rid of them. The second is ABCD. Always be collecting data [1]. You need to collect data

You're not missing anything. RBC has such a service though the entry fee to participate is high and they don't advertise it. It has a traditional enterprise sales cycle.

One thing missed here is this sort of thing is a lot easier (to read and code) using the built-in earthdistance module. The query doesn't need the added "shape" column unless you want it for indexes, and becomes simply:

Most people who think they need postgis just need earthdistance. Try it.

Honestly, no. Both Google and Bing's APIs are too restrictive, even in paid mode. They basically require that you show a Google/Bing map in conjunction with the lookup, which isn't something a lot of people want to do. Admitt

I worked hard to get onto the front page of google for "email to google drive", and I have a few links from other places that drive a bit of traffic. I experimented with adwords and stumbleupon but nothing caused enough conversion

I forgot to add - my next project is likely to be re-writing DVDSpanner (an application that automatically distributes and writes files across multiple disks) to support the latest OSX versions. I will be making that a paid app. I was inspi

I started EmailItIn[1] to allow people to email files to Google Drive, then added DropBox and SkyDrive/OneDrive support. Premium accounts bring in about $200/m right now, and it's steadily rising. Support is low - though it t

Linode's NodeBalancers are clearly HAProxy. I just wish they exposed more config options (such as the PROXY protocol - it's useless for SMTP without that).

Gmail's IMAP extensions follow the IMAP spec for custom extensions (using X- prefixes). They don't really violate the IMAP spec so much as provide access to gmail's custom features through the IMAP protocol.

Tough call. S3 is supposed to have 99.999999999 (or whatever) reliability (not uptime, just storage reliability). It's hard to justify backing up to somewhere else when they give you that figure.

This always comes up in these discussions and is a terrible counter example. RFC 822 is the format for email messages (ie headers) and not a form you'll ever find email addresses in "in the wild" (eg on web forms).

Also worth mentioning that a lot of people go for PostGIS when really they just need the earthdistance module. Much more lightweight and very very useful.
