That niche of developer/macrumors posters USED to be happy with everything Apple did. Under Steve Jobs, it seemed like Macbooks got cheaper every year, with more value. Now, every year the price goes up, but less value.

Yes, poor judgement. I also think it's sort of dumb to steal self driving "tech" from Apple. Might as well steal Uber's self driving "tech" as well.

There's something that was magical about jailbreaking iOS, because of the way Objective-C allowed you to modify the system by swizzling methods. This can't really be compared to people modifying their Android devices, it's ju

Nothing beats homemade chicken stock. There is no packaged food that can replicate the taste of homemade chicken stock.

To be fair, even if you cook for yourself, you still don't know with 100% certainty unless you grow your own crops and animals. When I buy sausages, I'm not exactly sure what's in it, all I can do is pray and hope for the bes

One time I was working as a cook, and someone gave me a handwritten recipe. I misinterpreted the 1 for a 7, and I used 7 grams of chili powder, instead of 1 gram.

The Euro has caused their debt to appreciate, so now they owe more money in real terms because the currency doubled in value. Meanwhile, Germany is able to export their goods without any currency risk. And now you have another layer of bure

When Melbourne made all trams free in the city centre, trams became unbearable to ride. It used to be just one tram line that was always filled up, now it's every single tram as soon as you get to the free zone. The transport system

Just as another data point, I currently live in Sydney (used to live in Melbourne), and I haven't noticed any of these problems here. Trains are much more pleasant to ride compared to Melbourne. Ferry is the best option though. Sundays

As a programmer, I absolutely hate SPA's. I've never used a good SPA, they're always slow, and behave strangely. I much prefer the traditional way. It's the same with Electron apps. I think it's just web developers

I also have a prediction: in another 10 years, auto-correct will still be broken. In the 2000s, the Internet still had potential. But, it turns out that human behavior never changes (Machiavelli was right), and now all those wonderful possi

Only a complete fool believes that Russia was able to influence the US elections with a few thousand dollars worth of Twitter ads. The Russian narrative exists to create a distraction in the form of an external enemy for the establishment.

If where we are at now is the end result, then YES! The employees who truly had a problem should have simply quit and found another job. Most of them probably wouldn't have cared enough to quit. Mozilla is irrelevant for me now. I just

I also agree with the author. I think Swift solves the problem of jailbreaking. If iOS were written entirely in Swift, there would be no jailbreak tweaks, because there is no method swizzling. I see Swift as an evolution of C++, similar to

I'm not sure I understand. Can't you do something like PEEK(PEEK(a)) or PEEK(PEEK(a)*256+PEEK(a+1)) ? I always thought of pointers as indirect addressing mode when I was learning about the 6502.

I completely disagree with this comment. In 1988, Bill Clinton signed the Higher Education Amendments which made student loans NON-DISCHARGEABLE. Essentially, he handed the students to the bankers on a silver platter. These loans should be
