In general, I am a hugely pro-choice. If the kids think they are up for that kind of websites, let them be. The odds that they see something they'd rather not have seen are a thousand to one. Sure, not impossible and there will be plenty of

So, in practical terms, how much does it cost to crack a 9 character password? A-Za-z0-9, just using raw CPU power (no memory or disk space or bandwidth needed). If that's anywhere under $100, nobody's hash is safe anymore.

I don't find it very surprising that you can see what domain someone's visiting; the system always needs to lookup the domain in a DNS query.

If we're having trouble funding the Joint Strike Fighter, I don't see this coming "off the ground" any time soon.

I don't know where you order your stuff, but I haven't had any of these problems. The only thing I can really agree with (even though I haven't had it myself) is the "being held in depot because you didn't stay home all day long to receive

I don't see why this got a single upvote. Not only is it a fake, it doesn't even do anything cool.

> Cross-browser compatibility is often the reason "good code" turns into messy code! I think that too depends on how you code it. You can code mechanics, or you can code logic (quoting an earlier blogpost title which was also on HN).

I always find it funny how people tell how to code great (like now, in CSS), and yet their website is totally messed up on my phone--the logo floating somewhere in the middle of the text and scrolling while I scroll. So much for good code.

I find these 'Learn to code in [any time period]' things tiring. You can learn to code in one day if you want, but that doesn't make you a good or knowledgeable coder. And some people will never be able to code in a logic manner, even after

For these numbers to make any sense at all, you need to scrape the new posts. Now you can only tell what you measured: How many how/why stories were submitted. By scraping the new posts and count the ones that make it to the homepage, you c

I wish people stopped flooding Hacker News with the same product. Or even more so, upvoting all five on the homepage alone. It's not like Drive is that great. Actually it very much pales next to Dropbox.

This is the big Google Drive we've been anticipating and rumoring about for the past 5 years? Google Docs with a different label and icon? The icon is uninspired and un-iconic. Somehow this project looks incredibly rushed and simplified to

True, an indication of recommended age may help in the Happy Tree Friends case. But I think some 10-year-olds might also not like it very much, and they are teens already. If it said "strong violence", that probably works even better. Of co

I hugely disagree with this. I'll give 3 examples and some more explanation: I'm not sure about others, but playing GTA 1 at 10 years old didn't make me a serial murderer as far as I know, nor did it offend me to shoot people's heads off

Why does this article make 178 HTTP requests and load Javascript from 24 different domains over a duration of 16 seconds, before even the basic loading is done? After that it starts on its three realtime services: Disqus, Chartbeat and Tube

Great to read how someone who needs Wordpad instead of Word (try it on Windows: open Start, type "write" without "", press enter) actually tries to bash Word on being too good. I agree that features might have an easier way to get turned of
