I must have misunderstood. I'm not saying anything about the readership of HN, only that the characterization of Trump supporters in your post is based on media narrative and not fact.

You're taking a characterization of Trump supporters created by the media for entertainment assuming that is the world writ large.

I assume the private flying crowd is doing multiple flights per year. Let's say 1 a month? That'd get to 2 orders of magnitude away.

He said private. So 1-4 people at 400 gallons per hour.

I spent half the cost of the airplane out of pocket my first year. Looks like year two will be 10%. Heard from lots of people that they didn't have my year 1 costs in 10 years, so YMMV. Running out of things that can break so hopeful

You can buy a single engine piston plane used for $20K. At the top end of new models about $700K. Flying in general costs $10K a year or so if you fly a fair amount, imagine that's affordable to most people with tech jobs who know Rea

I keep two iPads and backup charts. Also have a mount where it doesn't fall. I've had the iPad over heat in one plane though which was annoying.

I see it as decoupling the system administrator tasks from the software tasks. Sys admins can setup the OS, volumes, kubernetes, and monitoring processes. Application developers can do their own thing and deploy apps without having to car

We thought this 20 years ago sure, but I think we have enough evidence at this point that people are going to drool on their iPad playing Candy Crush instead of hacking emacs. I believe Marvin Minskey was quoted in "The Dream Machine&q

The "Simple Made Easy" talk describes this as the root of complexity in an application. Mixing and tying various subcomponents that shouldn't have to know each other exist.

Not to mention farm to table restaurants and third wave coffee. No downtown is complete with out them, and Instagram ensures all the latest trends show up every where at once.

That may be true but a lot of ATC workers do better than grunt software engineers. Five year experience can make $180K+. It's hard to imagine not having savings if you make that much. It's possible of course just harder than the

There's a reason such tweets resonate so well: 1. Creator of top software project can't pass whiteboard interviews. 2. I can't pass whiteboard interviews. Therefore, they are stupid for not hiring me. It strokes everyone&#x27

I personally don't know much about VS Code. All my keys for openings/searching of files are very centered around emacs. In short: macros: I can turn a column of text values into a single line of a json array with a few strokes.
