What I gather is people really like the blank whiteboard. There’s something about Notepad and Excel, the freedom, the linitlessness, of having a blank canvas and being able to do anything. Todo software is too opinionated. It’s not flexibl

I think it actually started for Encarta in 95, but that was ironically for Mac. It wasn’t quite as polished and consistent. I don’t remember having Encarta 96, but it appears to have had it too.

It's interesting this article makes no mention of Encarta. Encarta 98, 98, 2000 were the precursors to both Watercolor and Metro. Encarta quite honestly had a beautiful typography heavy, high contrast interface, one that still shapes

It's back to #1. The show is towards the end of the season and people need to vote for their favorite couples. Itll drop off the chart soon. ChatGPT will not. A little surprised to see Threads at 4 though.

I agree its phrased poorly. Better said would be: LLM's are designed to act as if they were non-deterministic.

No way. Everybody under a certain age is using ChatGPT, where they were once using search and friendship/expertises. It’s the number 1 app in the App Store. Copilot use in the enterprise is so seamless, you just talk to PowerPoint or

>Managing millions of cell towers would be diluting their focus Somewhat disagree. If you stuck Apple and ATT into a single holding company, each company still has identical focus. Does Berkshire Hathaway buying another company dilute

Does anyone have a link to the tool some hn person made of a tool that catalogs all Yavin's old writing? It was a really slick project and I misplaced it.

I fall pray to this often. Internal complexity and growth over time lead to great giant feature charts and comparison matrixes. But sometimes you just need a tool that gets a job done. It's one thing for something simple to not be a

Access to an elite social network has long been the distinguishing factor of college. When people are taking out student loans, they may not understand or fully grasp that that's what they are buying into, and if they arent taking adv

I’d prefer it be an OS API. You link your os to a local or cloud llm, and a local program asking the OS for a response and can’t even tell which one you’re using or whether it’s on the machine or not. It should all be abstracted away.

They will. It’s a no brainer to add a visual to the personality. They can bring back clippy, Cortana, and all the other variants, in classic or modern mode. Hell why not a BonziBuddy knockoff. An opportunity for Carmen Sandiego as well.

Then Google should offer Advanced Portable for $30 that includes being able to plug it into third party services. With some kind of policing to prevent it from being used as the entire backend to a service (for all users) itself.
