A buddy of mine got divorced and found himself in a tiny apartment with ethernet and not a router. I dug up my WRT54G but yeah, G wifi... In the end, we found an unused TP-Link Archer C7 for him, but that WRT54G brought back some memories.

I had the same experience with a local webshop here (bol.com). I needed two types of batteries but these webshops are more like marketplaces. They don't have a feature to search for items from a particular vendor. But I was able to sim

That seems an easy one to me. In your case, you maintain software that provides you a budget sheet. In the case of the OP, the app does that for you.

I live in The Netherlands as a freelancer, and thus there's no employer in between that obscures taxes somehow. It's all visible to me, and I pay roughly 8% of my income on health insurance. The Netherlands is just this tiny littl

Well then, join the Patreon. Or am I misreading your comment somehow? https://www.patreon.com/marcan I'm not going to use it myself, but I still joined, just to get the updates.

Sometimes, it's difficult to get paid extra due to organizational barriers. Then a reasonable option is to get time off. For each hour you lost on sleep, perhaps that day you stop working earlier 2 hours. This need not be discussed, yo

Indeed, this looks extremely outdated. The build instructions for the Mac client mention: "Before using it, you need to install XCode. I'm using XCode 4.3.3 for Lion". That's 8 years ago.

Indeed. A couple of months ago, a junior developer mentioned he'd need a library for a bar chart, and asked for directions how to use it in an Xcode project. It turned out to be easier to draw the chart with a few rectangles, and the d

So to recap: party Foo tries to take over the developer account of party Bar, using trademark law. Google makes this not possible. How is this a problem?

Think of it this way. I really like donating to free software. But sometimes I have to actively hunt for a donation link. So in my opinion, it would be good to low-key advertise it whenever appropriate. Also, while we're on the subje

Arq does this really good, I know exactly what you mean. It's more or less fire and forget. And unfortunately it looks like you're not getting an answer.

Have you looked at other challenges in Computer Science? Think embedded software, or maybe FPGA work? Maybe a position as a scientific programmer, or software that's very close to custom electronics?

For the decently paid people, that may still be true. I'm not so sure for the common retail folks, or the freelancers that Apple used to hire to categorize and correct Siri recordings.
