No. I always wonder in discussions like this how much more common they make the issue seem, because people don't exactly start threads saying "Ask HN: I don't have anxiety, and everything is great, is that common?"

What's the point in pardoning dead people?

I lack a belief that there is a person in Argentina called Smergold Abrahamson, as that is a ridiculous name and I have no reason to believe that they exist. But I'm not going to claim with certainty that they don't.

Unfortunately, "atheism" is a broad term which covers both people who do not believe in a higher power, and people who claim that no higher powers exist.

> An atheist claims "there is no God" or that eg "there is no Christian God". A gnostic atheist claims that, and yes that is a faith-based position. I think most atheists are agnostic atheists though.

How did you switch from not believing to believing? That's something I find really interesting. I feel like I would require such an enormously convincing proof that there is some sort of higher power, that I can't ever see it hap

Yeah, I'm not sure why this is such a problem. At work we tried out using detect-secrets[1] for a while to make sure we didn't accidentally commit anything important. It was a huge pain, it picked up nothing but false positives.

Is it so horrible? I have friends outside of work. I get on with my coworkers, we talk about non-work things, we occasionally do (well, did) social activities in the evenings or weekends... but if someone leaves I fully expect to never see

How consistent do you manage to be with your mood tracking? During the summer of 2019 I was thinking about doing that, but never got started. Then autumn of 2019 rolled around and my mood shot up dramatically, I didn't realise just h

I'm manually noting down durations in timedot format ( https://hledger.org/hledger.html#timedot-format ) in a text file. For example, today's entry as of 18:32 is: 2021-01-03 leisure:anime ..........

I started tracking my time in 15-minute intervals a little under a month ago, and I've also been surprised by how little effort it is. I've not gone for breaking by day up into 15 minute chunks, instead I've been timing mysel

Is having a second phone number and telling people when to contact you using it really easier than just... not looking at your primary phone?

To provide one datapoint, I think I've got a pretty strong imagination. For example, if I get into a book or story, at some point it's like I stop "reading" and start "watching" it unfold. I day dream a lot.

Honestly it's pretty great. I think the lack of commuting has been a real benefit to my life. I've got back into reading regularly, back into the habit of cooking healthily almost every day (well, except for one or two takeaways

Add is a piece of data, not a function. The equivalent in C would be something like: enum function { add, ... }; // then inside your code switch(myfunction) { case add: return a + b; ... Defuncti

None of those three seem to fit my experience of visualising things. I can conjure the image of a triangle in my mind with my eyes open without any difficulty, I can move it around, I can change its colour, I can make it shrink and grow; b
