They should've used a door strike meant for such things that they would've been able to control with their microcontroller, and then still have a normal knob/lock in place as a failsafe. A quick google found the sort of setup

Liquibase is already heavily used in enterprise settings. I could see this being fantastic for smaller dev groups, though.

I'd personally go as high as 6-8 in some scenarios. You can do a good bit with 512mb of memory of it's only doing a single task. Sometimes it's nice to keep things separated and compartmentalized.

Why limit the number of VMs, rather than just have it limited directly by memory? For example, why can't I have three instances with 2gb of memory and two with 768mb? It would make it pull the trigger.

Your average user expects an OS update to be nothing more than new features, they don't know/expect of anything to be wiped out, or know any kind of possible data loss might occur,
