A very cool demo but most of the output has no value as it is calculating the shadows on the top of the tree canopy rather than the "ground" (hence why you get sunlight even at dawn in a dense forest) But this would be very useful

In summary they took 24 songs (13 hits and 11 flops) and evaluated these against some neurological parameters from 33 volunteers, measuring average immersion, peak immersion and "Retreat" (low immersion). They then synthesised 100

The authors of the study are all from the chemistry department at the University of Kansas. Is this really the sort of paper they should be authoring? https://www.cell.com/cell-reports-physical-science/fulltext/...

Thanks for links to those extra studies. The 3.1% and 10% presented > 12 hours are averaged across all days of the week not just the Sunday to Monday gap which is likely to be greater given the reduction in public services in Ireland on

The headline is misleading. The actual study proved that the recorded date of admission to hospital in Ireland with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction was increased on a Sunday and Monday. Increased admissions on a Monday is not tha

This sounds like completely made up rubbish to me. Reflective surfaces definitely absorb less heat. Mirrors may however be impractical and may not reflect enough to make the missile immune.

Lots of words but not much detail. What I'm interstates to know: - The effective range of the system, if the range is only 100m or so then you might need a lot of these to protect a larger strategic area. - How it neutralises the drone

They have at least attempted to compare these excess deaths with a model of Covid excess deaths (although models are always wrong to varying degrees) The most interesting thing to me is how younger ages who previously haven't been affe

Whats striking from the statistics is how younger ages (under 45) have been affected this winter compared to during the Covid pandemic https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps

I remember the rumors of a 2025 release date and thinking that is oddly far into the future. If you were deeply involved in the project you would know that those dates weren't accurate so it must have been someone on the periphery. In

I'm doubtful this is truly eco friendly. The quantities produced are so small that the energy costs of the sprayer system and catalyst become very high. Global production of ammonia is around 4 tonnes per second whereas this process pr

Steel is about 10 times less conductive than copper which is why it is rarely used for cabling. Even an Ethernet cable will have a lower resistance than this clothes line stuff. The best advice would probably be to pull out a lighting circu

I would love to see a simulation of the forces involved here because I just can't see it adding up. A 60m tall sail introduces some really significant torque which may well be handled by the double container but how does that force get

Do you have a source for the insurance premiums being higher? I really doubt that is true but Spacex may offer a discount for previously-flown boosters which acts as an incentive.

I'm sceptical about this story. It's a nice anecdote for the book to show a point about how training data can't always be generalised to the real world. Unfortunately it just doesn't ring true. Why train it using Marines

Not of this size. Certainly single pieces are used in other applications where safety is even more critical such as submersibles. But manufacturing a tube this big would be impossible.

From an engineering perspective these sorts of acrylic tanks are a nightmare to ensure they are safe. The seams are impossible to inspect rigorously so the only real way of checking that they are safe is to load them with an excess pressure
