Performance per dollar is in the ‘too good to be true’ territory, what’s the deal here?

LLMs should be unreasonably good at exactly this kind of writing because they’re good translators; regardless in practice it works well to deslopify their writing, been using this in all my prompting in the last week or so, haven’t seen a s

Been having LLMs make TLA+ models since the winter and it does work wonders for complex stuff, I guess for the same reason it works for humans: the process of building the model helps when designing the code even if the model is thrown away

Repercussions is a polite way of putting it. …as is your ‘a little concerning’ comment about the eval infra. It probably didn’t occur to them that they have something capable of doing what it did - despite Anthropic writing a very similar s

Interesting, I can see where you're coming from. Key detail is the notes are actually not supposed to be read later, just written down - the act of writing by hand helps to commit their content to memory.

'I know this is true' is different than 'This is true' is different than 'It is impossible to say if it's true or false' is different than 'I've no idea', right?

The idea is that focus and actually working all of your hand instead of just fingers helps learning the material more efficiently even if your own perception of it does not agree.

Slow is half the point though! Memory has a very limited bandwidth. The other half: https://www.mdpi.com/2075-1729/15/3/345 and a plethora of others.

Title is a bit clickbaitish, but the content is well worth reading - came in with my pitchfork ready and left agreeing with basically all of it, with questions like ‘what if the probe could return 3 dimensions: truthfulness, knowledge confi

I hope they’re planning to build hardware so the learning experience can be close to pen and paper. Keyboards and screens are a distraction and the brain learns better with a pencil than with a keyboard.

I wonder sometimes how the world would look like if lisp won and the unit of deployment was a lisp machine image, if that makes sense. How would a kubernetes optimized for lisp look like? How would AWS EC2 look like? etc.

I don’t see how it can’t be both. Yes, it is a felony, unarguably, but it’s also a first of its kind and I’ll be very interested in who law enforcement prosecutes and what the judiciary says about this. Almost everything is a precedent here

Why? This is a very narrow task, it’d be surprising if the results were different actually; more interesting question would be how an even smaller model performs in the same finetune.

Only if you have a tiny screen. You can make them output what you would've written yourself, but that would be slower than writing it yourself, so no one does that - but it’s trivially true.
