The argument is that the baby boomers, by being a demographic bulge, have a relatively large electoral influence and so over time government policies have been disproportionately targeted to their changing needs. While 'directly respon

Not the OP but you can do a lot with the following: - view your site in lynx - try and navigate around it with only your keyboard - try navigating around it using your OS' screen reader

By that logic, governments shouldn't be able to impose meaningful punishments on any business.

Isn’t that the same protection that you get with any permanent contract in the UK? You can still be laid-off etc but the assumption is it will continue indefinitely. Maybe I’m mistaken but I thought American tenure was a different level of

In emissions terms I understand that nuclear power is far from 'low carbon', once you include the emissions involved in construction and fuel generation. I think a lot of greens are wary of nuclear power as they see it as a front

But don't you find you learn things, get introduced to new concepts and so on? I definitely think that HN has improved me as a software developer, if only to show me how much unknown stuff there is out there. Reddit is a bit more quest

Out of interest, why do you say that Go is awful for systems programming in this context?

I must admit I was a bit disappointed with Siddharta. Obviously the ideas in it are deep and very interesting but as a novel it doesn't really have much to hold it together.

Maybe "may I have" is more appropriate then. However, this veers into the realm of teachers who respond to "can I go to the toilet?" with "I don't know, can you?".

I lived in Berlin for a little while and when I moved back to London I was shocked by all the advertising on the tube. I had sort of filtered a lot of it out when I lived in London and then got hit with it afresh when I returned. Berlin jus

Things like Cryptopals ( https://cryptopals.com/ ) are good. But surely it's going to depend somewhat on the language and what things are easy/hard to do in that language?

If I can remember someone but not their name I usually try and be quite frank about - "hey sorry I forgot your name but when we met you had that cool story about how you did X". It hopefully works ok.
