Thanks for that. Maybe I will try again some time. I'm not saying it is impossible, rather that it is hard work compared to e.g. python. I recall looking through a few promising google results and finding e.g. that the library is no

Hi eudox, I would love to use CL for my projects - I've read (most of) Norvig's and Graham's books, written small programs etc. I really like most of the language, especially the 'break into debugger on error'. But

I find the BBC to be very good for most topics, generally better than e.g. the Guardian or other 'broadsheet' newspapers. BUT I have been shocked/amazed by the BBC coverage of Snowden - their silence was often deafening. Fro

A well-written geopolitical overview of China's rise - it's well worth reading the entire article if you have the time.

Feynman's story here was that at dances/social events, when he said he was a professor, and that he had worked on the Manhatten Project, he was assumed to be lying. So he switched to avoiding saying those things, and implying he

I tried watching the talk, but he goes very slowly - could be compressed 3x easily. The summary gives you the content of the talk much quicker.

I use the betfair 'betting exchange' API +crude algos to place bets on the final results of soccer leagues. My main risk, I think, is betfair going bust with all my capital locked into season-long bets (I make many small bets on

Good to see the price of big high resolution screens coming down, after so many stagnant years. > The one thing that may freeze you from pulling the trigger right now on the PB287Q is, oddly enough for the monitor market, the promise of

I use iD regularly. It doesn't seem slow to me. My connection is ~1Mbps, so getting the bing aerial images can take a few seconds, but it doesn't really slow my editing down.

Just tried it out. Doesn't let me walk along main roads (in the UK), which produces some very strange walking routes :/ It looks nice, but still needs some polish before it's usable for me.

I recently switched from CUDA to OpenCL, so I could use AMD's cards which are (imo) much better value. So yes, Nvidia are playing a different game - premium prices. I can see why many people prefer them though, if they have the cash -

In January I was looking to buy AMD graphics card(s) for numerical work using OpenCL. That time (roughly) corresponded to the peak in Litecoin prices. The best card - 7990 was generally sold out, and was going for about £600 on ebay. Sinc
