I'm not suggesting courage will protect you, I'm saying it will stop people from allowing their dignity, quality of life, and freedom of movement degraded for objectively insufficient reasons.

The correct response to terrorism is courage, not extra layers of security.

For the record, I don't raise this because it's "fun to throw rocks at the big guy". Your country is saturated by propaganda, which I'm fine with, but unfortunately it's leaking. People in my country listen t

I agree with pppp - it's quite easy in the most common case. I've run into little problems, but rarely, and certainly no more than what I used to have with Linux. Hardware support is like Linux a few years ago. That, and a few (

It's not for everyone, but try a BSD. When PulseAudio first started showing up everywhere, I thought it was an anomaly, but it was really a harbinger. Since then Linux has been getting more like Windows every year (unpredictable beha

I don't think the opioid comparison is valid. My litmus test would be: would someone resort to prostitution to get on Facebook for a few minutes?

It's an American problem where some aspects are more obvious in SV. The attitudes that the US has towards employment is much more "kill or be killed" than most other developed countries, with very little recognition that it&

FreeBSD isn't going anywhere and has binary packages. I've been using it on my desktops for years with Xfce, and I'm very happy. OpenBSD is supposed to have better laptop support, though.

Not what you asked, but a couple of years ago I moved from Linux to FreeBSD on the desktop. With computers you can either learn how computers work, or use tools that try to hide how computers work so you don't have to. For example, you

I'm very left, and I'm quite alright with measures like regional quotas designed to avoid "clumping" - which I believe would address most of your concern there. And you're right about the 8%, but since only about 10

I'll agree that that the two markets aren't isolated. But you can't be claiming that NIMBYism in the US is the dominant cause of a sudden tripling of house prices in Australia, can you? The elephant in the room is that, duri

The current rate of immigration to the US is 0.3% of its population per year. Put another way, for every 3,180 Americans, they have to somehow integrate 1 new person a year into their culture. In no way is that a "large, rapid" i

I constantly hear this argument, but I've never seen any evidence. There's been a simultaneous skyrocketing housing costs in disparate parts of the world in the last 20 years - I find it implausible that they got NIMBYed to the tu

If some people don't want to put any effort into making society more just, that's fine. Just so long as they don't get in the way of people that do, or take pot shots from the sidelines without offering any alternatives.
