I had been paying for iTunes Match since it was released, but when I started paying for Apple Music I canceled my Match subscription.

Isn't Apple Music a superset of iTunes Match? I believe Apple Music also includes the ability to match or upload 100,000 of your own songs.

It's funny how people can have such different experiences. I'm currently trialing a switch from Apple Music to Spotify, and the Spotify UI is completely baffling. I cannot understand how they make it impossible to, just, browse t

Unless you want an appliance. Some people want to experiment with electronics and magnetrons. Some people just want to microwave their leftovers. There's nothing wrong with either type of person or product, and either type of person wo

This doesn't seem odd or unusual to me. New products will have the newest generation of chips. I seem to remember this happening several times with iPhone releases, where new low-end models have newer (and potentially faster) chips tha

The current generation of iPad Pro doesn't have a headphone jack, and this iPad Air form factor looks nearly identical to the small iPad Pro. The writing has been on the wall for a long time. Headphone jacks are out!

I don’t really see how it works both ways. It’s hard to imagine a bigger scarier competitor to Samsung than the Apple iPhone, yet we agree Samsung is happy selling screens to Apple.

Samsung makes (excellent) screens for iPhones, which are huge competitors to Samsung's own flagship phones, but Samsung still seems happy to take the profits from the screen sales. If there are smaller potential competitors that Samsun

The towns in the peninsula are nice, even the smaller ones like Burlingame or even San Carlos. But apartment rents are barely cheaper there in SF for comparable nice units, and you’ll almost certainly need a car, and you of course lose many

I doubt you want to live in Half Moon Bay unless your schedule allows you to get outside during the week and hunker down to avoid the weekend traffic when the weather is decent.

I believe the 10 minute thing is because YouTube at some point let you include mid-roll ads if your video was longer than 10 minutes.

I don't find much filler among the areas of interest that I specifically follow on YouTube (some of that of course being due to my own selection of who to subscribe to), but I do find that filler on YouTube when I'm searching for

The exact same thing happens for me on YouTube, although I guess YouTube doesn't start with an auto-playing random sequence of videos to quick-start the search for videos you find interesting. Still though, I end up in very odd niches

Now at 11am in downtown SF it is much darker than it was early this morning when these pictures were taken. It's disturbing, to say the least.

Sending messages between individuals on WhatsApp isn’t a remotely comparable problem to Facebook’s algorithm actively spreading posts to a huge audience.

There’s a difference between thinking that any media that doesn’t agree with my political views is disgraceful, and thinking that the entire media industry is profiting from fostering division and controversy.

The trouble is that Facebook’s algorithm by definition does shape the speech that people see on Facebook.

I don’t think it’s that either. I think it’s about Facebook’s algorithm massively amplifying certain voices.
