"There’s not really any reason why you shouldn’t submit your App to Amazon’s alternative App Store." There are a ton of reasons to think twice about whether you want to be in the Amazon app store in the developer contract.

I agree. My all time rates are 18.2% returns, 2.5% payment declines. But that 18.2% as I understand it are customer initiated order cancellations.

I don't see how you can hang payment declines on Google. Customers failing to enter valid credit card information is just an ecommerce fact of life.

Another android dev with (much) lower volume here. Curious how you know about errors driving that 20% number. Is there a report somewhere with this detail or is it just inferred from customer emails? The only failures I ever see come throug

I don't see the problem. Its an all volunteer org and not even a formal non profit at this point as I understand it. They're planning to use donated developer/statistician/visualization designer time to help other non profits make better se

Beyond the Java point I suspect the ease of releasing frequent small updates on android fits the way they do development better.

Curious: have you noticed any bump in downloads on the market since the new version started rolling out? Sounds like no.

I've long suspected there's some kind of madlibs for PR that all these companies use.

I know this is a bit of a nitpick but am I the only one who cringes every time a new developer site like this requires logging in to look at a code sample or download an sdk? If you want developers to spend time and money enhancing the valu

This is hilariously impractical. Who is going to service these things? When summer hits can you stand a huge hit in processing power when everyone turns their servers off?

I was on JSTORs side of this argument until I read your comment. If its funded in part by taxpayers then the data they produce ought to be at least in part taxpayer property.

I suspect the reason is at startup the person making the final decision on hardware actually has to use it and is intimately familiar with what's being done on it. At a big org with say 1000 developer's that's not the case and at 1kish savi

Yep. That's exactly the kind of diasterous shadow system I'm talking about and a good example of how the issue is cultural as much as technical. It'd be tremendously difficult to keep all those spreadsheets telling the truth all the time. Y

To be fair its been years since I've touched access so maybe its much better now than it was. Also perhaps I'm blaming the paintbrush when I should also be blaming the painter which is going on regarding PowerPoint in this thread. That said

Its nice to see some good design advice for android getting out there. The reputation for poor usability on the platform is I think driven more by designers treating it as a secondary platform than it is android being difficult to create go

I disagree with the headline. It is not "spying" to record the police in public any more than it is spying for them to record you with a dashboard camera. Both recordings should serve the same purpose - to create a record of events that can

The "shadow markets" in this article reminded me of the "shadow systems" we often run into in the business intelligence space. Except instead of rouge, hidden, and prone to error spreadsheets it's rouge markets. Because the logic is effeciv

Amazing sense of entitlement in this comment. Google built the apis, they host the apis, they incur costs from this yet provide them for free. Presumably this is because they intend to get some benefit. So its Google's decision if they want
