Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. I really enjoyed his course last time, I also wish he would put out some data viz content too. I bet he develop lots of good insights during his tenure at the NYT, but understand he is tied up with Svel

This is odd timing with Rich Harris just releasing a course on Svelte v3 on Frontend Masters (June 12th 2023). https://frontendmasters.com/courses/svelte-v2/ From the migration there does appear to be some breakin

Apparently there is a major backlash against 996 as well, colloquially known as "let it rot." [1] You can only be dealt a losing hand at life for so long before you actively give up or try to implement radical, often major societa

Reminds me of the period of people coming to America during colonial times. That there were stories and tales of people joining Native American tribes, completely leaving their old lives behind and becoming happier but you never heard accou

What threat is there? Reddit had, and still has, all the power dynamics in these conversations. It's their product, Christian can't really coerce them to do anything whereas Reddit can and is.

HN doesn't lend itself to community building well, it's more like a meetup spot IME. Also it may be my eyes but I hardly notice people's names on here compared to something like reddit.

I don't think Netflix is a startup, could be wrong tho. I hear they want to start a streaming division and venture away from mailing DVDs.

do you happen to know of general programming/computer science forums (not counting hacker news)? That's really my only interest, I enjoy TV and movies but like discussing those in person nowadays.

This doesn't seem like a hard problem, if you want to work in an office seek out companies that are working in the office. What's the issue here? Plenty of companies require it and are slowly enforcing it. I don't know where

There's a difference between accommodations and full blown not designing an accessible website. I'm honestly shocked to find out much of reddit is inaccessible and not following WCAG AA spec. Seems like a slam dunk for a law firm

If your barrier of entry is setting something up, I'd definitely go with wordpress as it makes it quite seamless when writing new posts. As for me I use 11ty [1] for my blog [2]. I quite like 11ty as I just write markdown files and it

I can't find the podcast but, IIRC, Bryan Cantrill said that at one point VCs would look at GitHub stars to gauge interest in various projects in one period of time. Apparently this might have been a factor Docker's rounds. I thin

I highly disagree. There are many aspects of human life that don't devolve into the enshittification lifecycle. Public parks are one, eating with friends another, debating with people about various topics. It's more about the busi

Not in my view. Enshittification is more about the business cycle of sucking everything dry for the pursuit of money. Users be damned. At least that's how I read it, ship of theseus is more of an interesting thought experiment but not

I don't think so, this site is extremely slow compared to any other social media (slow as in not much content). I honestly wouldn't be shocked if hn had a slightly larger audience compared to fark. I suppose time will tell.

Ever since learning the phrase "enshittification" [1] from Cory Doctorow it becomes more apparent when it happens around you. I wonder if there is a "fediverse" for something like forums? I can never get into mastodon be

While I love testing-library, and have contributed to the sister libraries, one thing that always irked me is there was no empirical proof on why it was just better outside of handy wavy "because I said so."
