With the amount of GOOD EV coming to market, I think a lot of places (gas stations, etc) can quickly pivot to support charging stations, assuming incentives align with them. It's naturally for a lot of places with free parking (such as

Hmm... is this how current startup or "agile" companies environment work now? #1-4 are utter non-sense. #5/6 are generally true in every job if promotion is what you want, plenty of folks just don't care about that. Sad

Before covid, my work takes on average about 7-8 hr a day. Now, without the social aspect, I can easily do 5-6 hr a day, but there are days I work 10-12 hr because I was in a flow to solve the problem. From my experience, how much you work

This! I work for a company with ridiculous amount of data that goes back years. I just don't see how any new startups (even well funded ones) is gonna compete. It's not like they can go and ask users to resubmit the data.

Got ya. We are sticking with Par/Orc for now, we are running into the scenario where size of the data is going up, query SLA is going down. At some point, we will need to look at other technology to reduce cost without sacrificing perf

Can you persist Arrow-format data to disk? I see a lot of interests in it, but I can't figure out the use cases. For example, let's say I have ton (xx TB) of well-structured objects on S3. I want to run query via Spark/Presto

For backend infr, it's Java and its ecosystems. Not a fun language, but fairly straight forward to learn and widely use in production. Here in NYC (enterprise world), I don't see many Go/Rust related jobs.

If the shutdown was 3 months, I would agree. I think this is the first time in recent history that way of life was completely changed in such short notice and for such a long time. I think some of the behaviors will be staying with us.
