Consider that "moore UK authoritarianism" turned up zero relevant search results. You shouldn't over-estimate the popularity of your favorite comic book authors.

It reminds me of when a UK news anchor questioned a Chinese diplomat on the general mistrust of the Chinese government by British politicians. The response was essentially: "Why? You are nothing". Britbongs stay losing.

Given how common Moore is as family name it might be helpful to specify which Moore.

Beyond meat burgers taste like flavored plastic grounds, so until these plant based alternatives can close the taste gap its not going to go anywhere. And they have had years to make it taste better, so I suspect theres something fundamenta

Not at all, its more like human nature. For example, illegal logging in Brazil: it isn't mega corporations with evil billionaires at the helm, its small every day people who just want to make a better life for themselves. There's

Its easy to want to blame a few villians, but the problem is the collective consumption habits and preferences of us all.

Yes, I think what it comes down to is its more efficient for companies because of that positive feedback network effect. WFH could have changed that equation and made life better for everyone. Too bad we can't have nice things.

I do have empathy, thats why I can honestly say you are wrong. HN is largely comprised of people who are disproportionate beneficiaries of modern society, so its not a surprise that people here develop a pathological ideology that goes as f

People do want to live there because... of... jobs. How is this hard to understand LOL. You really think if high paying jobs were more spread out we'd see this insane Calhoun-like concentration of people in geographically tiny areas?

The demand is due to high paying jobs in the area not because San Fran is a nice place to live (lmao). The massive outflux due to COVID WFH is proof.

You know you can drive there too right? On the other hand, you dont get to live in an actual house. Its sort of like an insect hive.

Lets say pay was the same and magically commute was the same too. You would choose a literal pod over half an acre only 75 miles away? Insane. Enjoy your pod. And all the crime too.

I think that perspective is mostly just romanticization of reading, which is fine; if you have a book reading fetish nobody is stopping you from reading books. But in terms of efficiently grokking information I don't think it holds up.

Technology is an exponential process, and the thing about exponentials is that they are chaotic. You cant use inductive reasoning vis a vis war and technology. The next big one could truly reset us to zero or worse.
