What happens if that centeal authority becoms subverted (as many people here would argue is the case right now)? Doesnt that single point of failure indicate a weakness?

But that isnt a good long term strategy. If degrees hold no real signal, employers are going to start noticing and the value of a degree decreases. So its in universities best interest to actually test for competence. ... In theory.

Teach them "values" as determined by a central governing authority?

> Why shouldn't status be apportioned to someone who is recognized by a panel of peers and teachers to have useful insight into their field Because many "fields" in colleges are not useful.

It comes from neither animal nor plant. It comes from a computer. There's a strong parallel here how pro-life activists view the use of human stem cells.

DNA alone is not plant or animal. It's effectively saying 1s and 0s can be vegan (or not). Pretty silly.

Calling this "noble savage" and stereotyping is very reasonable (also known as true). Its hilarious that the most succinct and useful summary gets flagged and hidden. Thats the smoothness of HN some times.

Thats not true, there are some search categories that currently only google gets right. Aside, ChatGPT is horrendous at filtering web search.

I published on epigenetics extensively. Claiming that the existence of non-genetic inheritance supports or refutes a political ideology is sophistry. Or trolling.

If you are only getting your perspective from tertiary sources rather than primary sources, then you are more likely subject to a bias layer from intermediaries. I really dont think I am saying anything controversial.

It matters because that is what the plaintiffs are arguing - that the use of copyright material for AI training is not fair use. They are not solely arguing that meta engaged in copyright infringement through piracy.

Do you even realize that you are the one who used the phrase "echo hall"? Might be time to step back and take a breath.

Most major companies and politicians still use twitter for communication. It sounds like you are the one in the "echo hall"?

In my opinion, the headline result is this: LLMs given context of a users history were more persuasive than 99.4% of humans on r/ChangeMyView In the future, your opinions will be shaped by the party with the most powerful LLM. Addition

I want to make a point that might be misinterpreted, so I want to make clear I am not at all defending Microsoft. That said, Microsoft isn't a person and has no agency by itself. It is specific persons/developers/managers vio
