My original point though, is that they're only worth money to people who think they're worth money - domain speculators and 'cherished name' buyers. To anyone else, if you think about it with a clear head, they're fairly worthless. What is

Cool to see a writeup on a success :) Doesn't say what everyone wants to know though - how much it sold for. Also this is funny and sums up the domain name business for me: > "He finally sold to Kevin Ham, an Internet entrepreneur who o

I think you missed the issue. Consider the following code: jmp foo push ax // 50 foo: int 21h // CD 21 So now we want to set a breakpoint on the "push ax". If we do it using more than a single byte, it wil

$FOO in php is cheap. $('FOO') in jquery is expensive. I don't think using $ to signify "Run some load of jquery code" was a wise choice. Newcomers who don't know what is going on under the hood will regularly write loops with $('

All you would need to do is create a ldd file that people can then import into LEGO digital designer. Then they just click 'buy'. This has some info on the process http://www.ldraw.org/Category9-All.html Alternatively figure out how the c

jQuery promotes bad practices. People assume $('something') is a cheap variable access, when in fact it could be pretty slowly executing several functions. So they don't bother caching anything.

2. If you can't read code well, how the hell are you going to be able to write code well? Too many programmers are terrible at reading code and that correlates IMHO with being terrible at writing it. If you're planning on being an author, i

Boring rookie question. Add a closure. I expect it does a good job of sorting out people who know js from those that have no clue though.

It's also completely avoidable. Concurrency is only hard because it's a stupid thing to do - to give a bunch of instructions to the CPU and tell it to execute them in a random order.

The data lists US as ranked #1 for health??? Rubbish. Rather than taking real data such as life expectancy, they seem to be asking population "Are you happy with health". So basically, rather than measuring 'happiness', this is measuring ho

I don't dismiss them because of that, I dismiss them because I can do the same job quicker by thinking, knowing the code, being able to read and understand any code I didn't write, and inserting a couple of print statements.

That's why you use proper logging :/ If you're making something of a reasonable size, you should be logging tons of stuff. If you've made sure your logging is solid, often fixing a bug is just a case of looking in the log to see what went w

Proper logging > debugger. There is absolutely no point single stepping through code, setting up breakpoints, inspecting variables etc, when you could instead just insert an extra log statement to see what is going wrong. If your loggin

I don't think that's the case at all. Bad programmers spend years on silly problems that don't matter. No one cares if you as a programmer find a particular language to be beautiful. Language syntax doesn't matter. Having to type out boiler

I disagree. A bad programmer is the guy that says "I will only use lisp! Everything else is terrible". A good programmer just wants the thing to work and will use whatever is best for the task. The solution is for programmers to learn more

1. Concentrate on making your product great, instead of attacking the competition/market leader. 2. Don't assume everyone cares about things you do. No one gives a hoot if a website they click on knows what page they came from.

But I'd bet both of them perform far better than MzScheme. In any event, it's a "solved problem". The sheer amount of time and effort going into this is silly. Just pick a better language/platform and use it.

My response TBH, would be that there is no point spending months tweaking the engine of a ford to try and get it to perform like a porche. Just get a porche in the first place. I don't value "being able to write it in my favorite language"

Yeah I'd trust my life on it. I've had java processes running for several months without issue. The hardware fails before the jvm does. I wouldn't trust anything from microsoft though.
