Do you really hold up the pages you post from Mahalo as a shining beacon of something you want to be known for? Pages full of auto-generated content and ads which you have managed to get Google to index? I'd understand if you were desperate

Cool. If that's the case, if they get everything they need from that page, you can safely remove all of the adsense plastered all over the page right? Since people are sitting on that page learning to play chords, and the content is so awes

Do you think those types of pages are providing real value to users? Come on... get real. There's obviously a reverse incentive at play here which stinks (IMHO). If you make the page useful to users, they wouldn't click on any of the ads. S

I see http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-make-strawberry-shortcake has 4 adsense units on it. Adsense says you're allowed a maximum of 3. Something I'm missing? Or is there some special Google deal by which you can add more than 3 and get away

Doesn't Google have a feature: [x] Never show me any more results from foo.com I hate that site. Remember my preference. If not, it should do.

I mean the chrome bar and firefox equivalent - not labeled as a search bar, but it works as one. OK, not that new, but in terms of the internet, fairly new.

More likely is that they do use a search engine, but don't realize it. For example, new browsers with search bar functionality etc.

I think it may be Pixars influence... Up! and Wall-e were both pretty adult intellectual movies (yawn). Hopefully Toy Story 3 has something for the kids as well (Haven't seen it yet).

Of course they do. That's the problem with democracies. They all turn into a cesspit of idiocy unless you keep control.

Reading a newspaper is a completely different experience to getting all your news online. I started getting newspapers delivered when I was about 20 (I'm 32 now). The funny thing is people who moan on and on and make fun of people who get t

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/scribd.com doesn't really show that, but then alexa is always to be taken with a pinch of salt.

No user cares or even knows that it's an image vs something else. As long as you can select the text etc it's exactly the same.

> "User Engagement Triples" Overly vague. Does that mean 3 times the page views? Nothing much seems to have changed on any traffic measuring sites (quantcast, alexa, etc).

Google managed. (They've been displaying pdf's using HTML for ages now). I know it's cool to hype up everything as HTML5 now, like it's something totally new and completely different to anything that went before, but it's not. It's just som

The task for a spammer isn't to hack <USERS> account. It's to hack ANY account. Being able to hack any posterous account is going to be far far easier than trying to hack a particular account.

It'll be that way until the US get rid of its guns, stop fighting the world and get some human rights in place... Don't count on that happening for a few hundred years yet though.

Surely the easiest way would be to require you put your password somewhere in the body of the email. eg: Hi this is an example blog post I'm gonna see if this works ys8uc99p

Why is startup time relevant if you're doing backend server stuff? It's pretty much the ideal use case for Java. Java 7? meh. If you like chasing new shiny things all day, sure. Javascript is a great language, no doubt, but for me, it lacks

I think both have great support. They both have active and lively IRC channels where staff hang out. It's usually very quick to resolve issues with slicehost and linode. The pain point for me at slicehost was bandwidth - they charge a lot,

The transfer is a bit poor on prgmr though. $20 gets you 160GiB vs 200 on Linode. Also overage charges on Linode are pretty cheap (half what they are on slicehost). Depends if you need ram/disk/transfer though.

Also, no one cares if something uses css rather than js. The endless "X done only using Y" is cool from a hacker perspective, pushing boundaries is where the awesome hacks come. But users will just go 'meh'.

Lacking one eye really doesn't matter that much. You move your head a bit, you instantly know where everything is in 3D.
