Can we agree that the host here is at least partially responsible for what happened? First, let me say that what happened was horrible, and the person who did the damage should go to jail for a long long time. AirBnB should cover the cost o

Anyone have an idea as to how so many Y-Combinator companies get this kind of mind blowingly awesome press? is it just the brand recognition of being a YC company?

The big thing Google+ seems to be missing compared to Facebook is the ability to be a voyeur on other people's lives. I haven't used Facebook in years but I recall that was the thing that basically everyone spent their time doing. Google+ s

Check this site out: http://bitcoinwatch.com/ The velocity of bitcoin is 730k/24h or $11M/24h, which is pretty insanely high and suggests that if anything the current value of bitcoin is low (due to perceived risk.) Lest you think this is

The thing that will keep bitcoin alive is black market transactions. As long as there is a single officially supported currency that can be traded into bitcoin there will be a huge market for it. I don't see every nation in the world bannin

Waterloo, Ontario We would consider hiring remote developers, but ideally we want someone who can work in our office with the rest of the team. We are a growing and profitable startup in the education space with 12 employees. Our developmen

There are ways to hack around the lack of SSL on third party domains with Ajax, but yeah it's pretty insane that they still haven't got that in place.

I'd say what killed it is that for $200 you can buy a decent used 13" laptop, instead of spending $250-300 on a borderline unusable new 10" netbook.

The reality is that the vast majority of successful startups do work very long hours and push themselves to the limit. Only once a company is established and has a successful product can you begin to see huge leverage off of every hour of w

Nah, I don't think so. When a company like Color (and honestly I don't know that Color is a lame duck, I'm just using them as an example) has $40 million to burn they can afford to pay a kid right out of school $150k/yr + $1M in equity. Mos

This is the other unseen cost of being in a bubble. All the best talent gets tied up in lame duck me-too companies, and makes it impossible to hire people for the good companies.

I've found that conferences are never ever worth it by themselves. The only way we've been able to justify the cost of travel+time was by scheduling 15-20 meetings with customers in the area of the conference, so that the actual conference

Ultimately there's no substitute for human judgement to filter things. It's just a question of who makes the call, and how "democratic" the process is. "Interestingly, about 95% of companies that apply to be featured on AngelLiist do n
