I think what's truly unhelpful if people claiming that everything is fine, while the education system completely fails to meet even the most basic standards of efficacy (while costing a cool trillion dollars a year to run.) At the most basi

It's really a shame that almost none of what we know about optimal techniques for learning is being applied in real educational institutions.

Looking at the actual research it seems the improvements were typically on the order of 10%. So this isn't going to turn Homer Simpson into Einstein. I wonder how this compares over the long term to just working an extra 20 minutes per day,

This whole post is a red herring. Megaupload was also used for legal activities. Awesome. I bet the mafia also did some stuff that was legal. Let's consider the "complexity" this introduces into the act of putting mobsters in jail. Insightf

Wait a year. Ubuntu has a very powerful tendency to slowly develop crud and become unusable, until you just need to start from scratch and re-install the OS. Not sure if this has changed, but laptops tend to be a mess with Ubuntu. Things li

I definitely recognize that SMS is a tough problem, so I sympathize as an engineer. That being said, as a customer I don't care about any of that, I just want it to work. Simple test: send more than 1 message from a phone number in the span

The developer experience isn't even the worst of it. Try running some reliability testing. It's mind blowing how bad Tropo is and how many random hidden variables exist in their system.

When are they going to get SMS enabled numbers in Canada? I know it's a drop in the bucket, but I will immediately switch over $10k/month in business to them as soon as they do that. The other providers are disastrously bad (yes, that inclu

The idea that automation creates unemployment is ancient, and has been debunked over and over. How is it that people don't at least wonder why cars, manufacturing robots, computers etc. etc, haven't lead to mass systemic unemployment, but f

Funny how virtually zero successful startups have followed your model of paying people 100k+ at the beginning (first 1-2 years, pre-series A, or pre-profitability.) Probably just a coincidence though.
