That's an impossible number to calculate. Just today, in fair but flowing traffic, I noticed a vehicle braking constantly and erratically. The person behind them apparently had enough and swerved to my lane to pass them, nearly causi

Fascinating, and well studied, but I don't buy the '1 in 10 distracted'. As someone who has done tons of driving, I'd honestly put the number of distracted drivers, specifically dicking with their cell phone, somewhere

Driving in particular is different...and as I teach my wife to drive I realize how stressful and compute intensive it is. Slow down if there's cars on the side of the road, a kid will dart out. Keep an eye on what's around and b

Yes, it was fixed in 5.5. There's a few corners of the internet explaining the issue...this one is good enough https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=250765 . I have a newish all intel setup, and 5.4 crashes to th

I feel absolutely conflicted about this. On one hand, I do think this should be a catalyst to require front camera and or collision detection, especially if it saves lives. On the other, I find it reprehensible that these tragic stories a

As a 20 or so year long linux as a desktop user, I've had my hopes up so many times that more people would embrace Linux. It's always been about the games, largely. Hell we had id's stuff running, and there was even a compa

Nah. I feel a lot like you, and can't wait for the day optimizations matter again. But realistically, fat chance. It's easier and cheaper to hire 50 code monkeys to throw crap at the wall and make something surprisingly functional

This mirrors my own experience. I was grinding a lot at home and storing it, but the next day it just felt flat. I'm one of those people that likes heavy aromatic Konas. Grinding for what you're making now is the way to go for

Not to discredit Clear's work at all, but it's not so much the 'OS' in standard parlance, it's still just another Linux distro. It's down to compiler flags and optimizations, which generally anyone can do give

In fairness, I've only dipped my toes in with a few Jinhaos. They are pretty cheap. They aren't as nice writing as the really nice ones, but serviceable. They come with refillable reservoirs, and take international standard cartr

It's funny I just posted about the same thing. If you're interested, check out vintage Elma grinders on ebay. I have one we restored and it looks nice. If something smaller, Kalita makes nice ones too. Somehow I now have 3 tot

I'm in full agreement, but that idea isn't popular here, where I find folks a bit fatalistic. I understand why of course, assuming 'someone will solve it' takes the urgency out of the problem. We do need to take action

Right? Every fiber of my body screams "JUST INCREASE THE TAX!". Figure out the fuel usage drop, if any, and adjust the tax accordingly. Hell, I'd pay double fuel taxes if I didn't have to fight red lights anymore.

This is a hard question to answer easily, IMO. I find that Java folks tend to overuse the debugger, spending 20 mins stepping through something that a simple value print would have solved. That said, some code -really- needs a debugger. Y
