I'll second this. I find Incognito windows really useful when I want to hop on my wife's laptop and check FB/email/the handful of other things we both have accounts on.

Not really, depending on where you are. I live in the pacific northwest, there's some long lonely stretches of road required to go see some of the awesome sights out here. Plus for me flares, jumper cables, and patches all store in the spar

No, that's the wrong solution. The traffic still tells them that there is still interest to monetize, they just may need to stoop to new lows to get to it. Loudly tell them that their spying is unacceptable, then actually follow up on that

Bottled water, a blanket or two, food that stores well, and a first aid kit. None of that takes up a lot of space, and it could easily save your life. Plus just about all of it is handy to have around for non-emergency needs anyways.

In what way? I'm no huge fan of RMS, but McAffe is in a whole different league of "weird relationship with computers and the internet".

That's an awesome idea, maybe you should fork the code behind this site and put it together.

Anyone have an explanation on this part at the end? using R2 "".foo "".bar # does not work now I can't figure out why "".foo would work in this case but "".bar wouldn't.

Repost of the message, since bugs.ruby-lang.org appears to be down: Issue #4085 has been updated by matz (Yukihiro Matsumoto). Since there still remain undefined corner case behavior in refinements, and the time is

Not in this case there isn't. You showing up at the airport and going through security is implied consent to the search, just like opening the door to them without explicitly denying consent is enough for police to legally enter your house.

That's the point of the article, though: callbacks don't offer enough structure to effectively reason about.

It's hard to say from the description of "fairly standard". Libraries with C extensions may not work with JRuby. A few Rails deployment options aren't available with JRuby, and the ones that do support it may treat it like a second-class ci

Yes, I'm sure "stockpiling against the need to re-create society" is much higher on most people's list than "I don't want to pay for the things I want".

Yeah, it is. Even if you add the caveat of "MySQL supports it (with the InnoDB storage engine)", it seems ridiculous to omit MySQL from the list.

Indeed it is. According to the manual this is true as of MySQL 5.5, so sometime in 2010 it switched. Good to know.

In its default configuration, MySQL doesn't support MVCC. It's the InnoDB storage engine that does, and you have to (know you need to) go out of your way to get it. Just saying.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Either way you (potentially) have a lot of data to push around, but encoding things as text that could largely be fixed width binary floats really bloats them up.

The spatial enhancements are pretty exciting. You can support a lot of interesting things when search can be polygon queries against polygon data. WKT is a pretty fatty format though.

Can you expand on the resiliency of cloudfront? We've had great success after switching to it for hosting of map tiles, but possibly haven't pushed it hard enough yet. (I pushed it hard, but defining "enough" is very, very tricky) Cloudfron

Indeed I am, that's what I get for envelope math. I think there's a price/performance sweet spot where a small server with something like varnish makes a lot of sense. Move outside of it in terms of hits/day or acceptable cost/hit and S3 ge

I typically go one step further in the "mocking http requests" and write a simple class that does nothing but make the http call and translate input/output. From there you can stub/mock that object as appropriate. That way you have a very

My wife and I do (with the phone) and I'm not really sure it's healthy. She'll stay up for hours playing short little time waster games, and I'll do the same on reddit (as a long-term non-game time waster). Then we're right back at it for 1
