I'm as much a fan of Karate Kid as the next guy, but calling both Johnny and Daniel-san 'hollywood talent' is questionable. I'd not seen either of them in anything from Hollywood since the 1989 Karate Kid part 3

I bet. I believe Google offers reference implementations for free, but it's up to each hardware company (Nvidia, ARM, Intel etc..) to release a chip with hardware decoding enabled. Google can't do it for them.

Upon purchasing On2, It was Google's intention to release a new codec every 18-24 months or so. That would mean hardware would never catch up. However, Google didn't keep that pace. VP8 came out in 2010 and VP9 was 2013. AV1 was j

I get that this is easy, but there are 2 main cons: 1. It is $4 a month (that's a lot for a really a simple static page) 2. Vendor lock-in. These sites come and go and might not be around in a couple of years. This is why I recommend

I was a longtime user of KeePassX. The UI was terrible, but it was free, open source and most importantly cross platform. After KeePass2 made the DB incompatible and rewrote everything in C# it stopped being a proper cross platform product

I saw this advertised years ago. Surely something as heavy as LO isn't really suited to a webapp.
10. 550.▲
    by awill 9y ago

Agreed. All other improvements LO makes are futile until compatibility is 100%. LO works very well in a closed environment with only LO users, but it doesn't work to share documents with Office users.

You can use Ulysses in the proprietary format or open regular .md files. I have a folder open, so I have multiple layers of folders. It works pretty well. The proprietary is required for iCloud (if you want to share notes with the iOS app).

    by awill 9y ago

Since I have no Apple hardware except for a work provided laptop, I don't use Ulysses' proprietary format. I just have a folder (that's in Dropbox) with straight .md files in it, and have added it to ulysses. After the Everno

I used to use Ulysses. It's a great app, but shortly after I paid $40 for it, they switched to subscription. I'm now looking for a new app. I use Mac for work (with the old no longer updated Ulysses) Linux at home (using caret) A

I thought an important part of this article was to avoid sites where a different reviewer reviews games chosen seemingly at random (like the mainstream IGN, Gamespot, Polygon). Just because you agree with/like John's IGN review of

The only reason Qualcomm is cheap enough for Broadcom to purchase is because of Qualcomm's disastrous SD810 chips that ruined many flagship devices in 2015. And that's all because they had to rush to the 64-bit market to chase App

I don't think price is about the task (cronjobs), it's about how you value the output. If I'm using cronjobs for some trivial unimportant task (like checking for firmware updates), I am not willing to pay. If I'm using c

This is quite straight forward, and I'm surprised no one has done it (to my knowledge). You simply wire the camera in such a way that powering it also powers the LED. If done properly, you couldn't hack this with software.
