This is depressingly ill-informed. Require.js has an optimizer that does exactly what the author suggests: http://requirejs.org/docs/optimization.html The point is to build your application using AMD, using individual

During the last major (multi-day) S3 outage, a few sites did similar things. I remember reading articles from Giant Bomb ( http://giantbomb.com ) via Google Docs posted on Twitter by the writers. Obviously, video games aren't

Fair points, though I quite like the concept of a "variable containing a library" (or module). Personally, with JavaScript being the first language I seriously learned, it's intuitive for me to reason about. JavaScript is bui

Really impressed by the progress bar built into the site - I don't know any sites besides YouTube that are doing that! For anyone else wondering, it looks like the app is powered by Backbone, D3, and Handlebars on the front-end.

The idea of getting more eyes on Amber Alerts is a fundamentally good one, I think we can all agree on that. I think a far superior option to these kinds of active, "HEY LOOK AT ME" alerts would be something that could fit in pass

Trusting the community to do the right thing is better than handicapping your users. Regardless, of course, people add metadata to JSON already - there's zero reason you can't "_type": "int". It's a comple

Can we all just agree, as a community, to add comment support to our JSON parsers? Hell, I'd do a PR on V8 if I knew C++. It's ridiculous that I can't document notes on dependencies in my NPM package.json, or add a little rem

Ember - or Backbone, for that matter - would be a bit trickier to write a plugin for. Neither really handles hierarchal data structures in an elegant way - both have a model layer that assumes a "flat" structure, similar to server

And yet, no news on the OSX front, even though the Source Engine has worked on Mac even longer than it has on Linux. Really was hoping they'd have at least a Mac beta by the time they started the rolling launch of the Windows version :

I was editing JSHint - most of which is in a single 5000 line file - yesterday, with the same file open in split view, and was disappointed to see ST2 chugging a bit, with visible input lag. In ST3, no such problems.
