Weird. I haven't had a college professor who has to typeset mathematical equations who doesn't know LaTeX.

I agree, but as I tried to make clear in the article, I've only tried to make the code as generalized as possible. For the memoize class for example, you wouldn't care. For the safe class, you'd definitely write in more exceptions to hand

Not really familiar with TurboGears, but it's always awesome to see an app leveraging a language's natural power and flexibility. I concur about decorators being "insanely easy to use"--taking the memoization example I presented in the arti

What's the big deal with Terminal.app? I honestly don't see it--maybe I'm not power user enough, but it's fine for me.

Agreed. > The lambda alternative (which would make a great blog name) I'm stealing that.

I mentioned it in the article: map was going to be deprecated in 3000, but now will return iterators. Contextually, not what you want.

Thanks for the tip. I'll update the article. Edit: updated. Edit 2: apparently there's some controversy. I'm looking for a definitive answer.

A student group I am a member of screened this on Tuesday for the campus. Good stuff, I liked it more than I imagined I would. I've been told it deviates somewhat from the book, which I need to pick up.

Not a bad reference for newbies, but this lacks some important things (dictionaries, tuples, list comprehensions, lambdas etc.). Also, the arrow-style explanations don't lend well to a quick-search reference.

Beautiful presentation for the main app, although I don't like the way two tabs are laid out for choosing whether you want to create a new question or make a quiz for your blog on the "Write" page. Addictive app, though. How are you guys

I'm not so sure about this code. Personally, I'd use jQuery, which has stuff to make this a lot easier. I haven't looked at the code, but Google turns up http://www.ndesign-studio.com/blog/design/css-dock-menu/

You're right, that didn't occur to me. I don't type "www." and I would imagine a lot of people don't. Then again, I can't say for certain people like my dad understand that you can remove it.

This article is pretty old, and I've seen it pop up a few times on many of the other social news sites, but that isn't my problem. Something that has always bugged me is some of the ludicrous claims in the article. Take the following: "It
