Not sure how this works. I have OCSP stapling turned on in Apache and Firefox wouldn't load my page when Let's Encrypt OCSP servers went down. My monitoring shows that last stapled response had 4 days of validity left. So it seems

Also their OCSP server seems to be now having intermittent problems, making pages unreachable. In Firefox you need to go to about:config and disable "security.ssl.enable_ocsp_stapling" and "security.OCSP.enabled" to get

Most anti-theft tags are not RFID and the gates are not full RFID readers. At least in Europe, vast majority I see are still based on simple resonators that get disabled on checkout. Effectively, the gates only provide a yes/no signal

What is a caring consumer to do? At this point, pretty much all laptop brands are on my blacklist for one such reason or another.

Not the parent. One thing that prevents me from using text-only mail clients is that I have to read mail where in-line replies are distinguished from quoted content only by font color set in HTML. This means that I have to disable even Thun

What version of Google Chrome do you need for the PDF export to work? I tried it on 58.0.3029.96 (Linux) and this does nothing (no error messages, it just quits without writing any files): $ google-chrome --headless --disable-gpu --print-to

I did something similar with Ogg Vorbis back in 2006. There are also some results of experiments with the Opus codec posted in the comments. https://www.tablix.org/~avian/blog/archives/2006/01/lossy_

You are misunderstanding the summary. Researchers found ~3500 keys with shared factors in a historical dataset of ~4M keys. None of the relays with vulnerable keys they found are online today.

Convergence already means that GNOME on my (quite un-rotatable) desktop PC has a rotate-lock button and that I have to do an awkward slide-to-unlock gesture with a mouse to get to the login screen. No thanks.

My experience with Ubuntu-preinstalled Dell laptops is far from perfect. At one point, Ubuntu updated the binary nvidia driver in the LTS release (the one that came preinstalled on that particular Dell model, I think 14.04). The new driver

I fear the day "good UX people" come to GIMP and Blender. It used to be that OSS was developed by people that actually used it. Maybe it wasn't pretty, it had a steep learning curve, but it got things done and was efficient o

This is not a particularly good fix. It lacks "set -u" which is the first line of defense for this kind of bugs, much more robust than the "if [ -d ...". Command lines lack proper shell quoting. If $diaspora_home ends up

Sinclair ZX Spectrum had a palette of 15 colors. 7 base colors, plus 7 "bright" versions, plus black (bright black was the same as normal black).

You still need to carry some fuel to achieve an orbit that does not intersect with the launch site. It's quite an old idea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_gun

When I started with Linux I used the Zed editor by Sandro Serafini, which used WordStar-like keybindings as well. Interesting, how it seems to have completely disappeared from the web since then. The two "zed" editors I could find

I've seen these dark patterns justified by "UX experts" like so: 1) Make a A/B test with an annoying pop-up sign-up box and an ordinary unobtrusive one. 2) Data shows that more people sign up using the pop-up. 3) Obvious

I'm using Instapaper exclusively due to their "download to .mobi" functionality. I'm using it to collect longer texts (through a bookmarklet in my browser) that I can then later read off-line on my Kindle.
