That's because "character flaws" on a personal level are often required to achieve exceptional results. Not sufficient. But often required. If Jobs were a quiet, contemplative, respectful person who was careful to keep track

Um, hello, 911? I believe my neighbor vorticalbox is making a bomb. Better go have a look inside his house. I also heard he is hoarding illegal weapons and ammunition, so you should be prepared for a fight.

Better cut their funding, that will help them spend more time following up on uncorroborated accusations from ex-girlfriends as in this case.

He had no criminal record and it appears the only complaint against him was an uncorroborated and non-specific accusation from the girlfriend that he talked about bombs a lot, and a similarly vague concern from her attorney. The police seem

This article is a great example of the straw man fallacy. The article pretends that there is an "intellectual justification" for capitalism that doesn't recognize the need to break up monopolies to preserve the free market. I

I was ~11 years old when the iMac came out. I hated it. Looking back now - I enjoyed working with computers, I suppose in part because I liked being good at something that was an "adult" activity. And here Apple comes out with a c

Justin Amash is the only principled person in Congress. The only Republican in the House to vote for both articles of impeachment against Donald Trump. Of course - this is his last term, he did not run for reelection. I hope he does somethi

This is a clickbait, sensationalist headline. “Saving a PDF with Preview in Big Sur can corrupt OCR text added by a third-party program” is more accurate.

Wow. Lest anyone think that Dr. Morrow is some kind of anti-lockdown activist - back in the spring, San Mateo county had one of the most restrictive and prescriptive lockdowns of anywhere in the US (residents were ordered to limit outdoor r

The M1s have 8 GB standard, 16 GB is a $200 upgrade. The parent is stating that 8 GB is actually fine and that people will be paying to upgrade to 16 GB unnecessarily.

What do you think your liability proposal might mean for a website like Hacker News? Or any kind of online forum, Stack Overflow, etc.?

Sounds pretty awesome! Anyone know how much performance might be expected to degrade as the number of users increases? Most of these people probably have the entire Starlink RF spectrum to themselves in whatever location they’re testing in.

I don’t see how you can so confidently reach that conclusion. It seems perfectly plausible that Apple wants a way to quickly quash malware, worms, etc.

Why do we need a law? No one forced you to buy a Slingbox. We shouldn’t automatically reach to government intervention to solve every one of our pet peeves. I don’t buy random gadgets that require cloud support from no-name companies for pr

That’s rich. One might argue that the guy arguing the government should force Apple to let him sell his service through the platform Apple invented, built and operates is the crony capitalist.

I don’t see the actual harm here. Malls have operated security cameras for decades. These people added a facial recognition system to generate population statistics (age, gender) and track anonymous individuals as they move around the mall.

It takes 30-40 minutes to walk 2 miles. If I have to go to the grocery store to pick up ingredients for dinner, do you really think I should spend an extra 60 minutes walking there and back vs. driving?
