There's a lot of people agreeing and disagreeing with the article, but on what grounds? How do you know "domain expertise" is a "moat"? Vibes? Has there been ongoing, persistent attacks by AI on domain expertise whe

It's not possible, it reduces to the halting problem, unless you start restricting the Javascript/Typescript you allow. Otherwise the best you can do is be solid on common special cases. Which is what a modern (non-static) JS/

A runtime is needed for GC, unless you're fundamentally changing Javascript. Even golang has a runtime.

On the contrary, I'm assuming good faith on the part of those who implement these "dark" patterns. They're done for a reason, and that reason is not pure evil from their perspective.

You should turn around! That's literally my point. If everyone refused to touch a site that blasts you with a dickover, they would disappear overnight. Clearly people do not do this enough, because it's still being implemented.

I'm not in this industry. I block basically everything. I think the state of these design antipatterns is terrible. But this is a Chesterton's Fence problem and we need to understand where it came from if we're going to fix i

> If someone is allowed to shove something in front of my face should I not be allowed to make them invisible? Yes, I'm 100% on the adblock train. Local AI adblock sounds like a great solution. Then maybe dickovers will go away when

Microsoft's blog is calling this criminal activity. They are threatening to bring in the government to go after this speech. This is a first amendment issue.

It's also quite the blame gymnastics. The code that enables the bad actors was written, published, and distributed at massive scale by Microsoft. The "crime" they are accusing the researcher of is telling the world about it.

If such a thing ever becomes big enough that money can be made, it will rot, and orders of magnitude faster than the current internet did. More than making the new stack non-interoperable with existing tech, you would have to make it non-in

You are kind of saying it's a good idea or at least a totally acceptable one. You're saying Twitter is famous for being famous, and looking down at someone who expresses dismay at this for being behind the times.

I've had good luck with using LLMs to create procedural content engines for my game prototypes. So the distinction between AI and procedural might get even blurrier.

I'd argue the kinds of things that LLMs spit out these days don't actually require "software engineering" and haven't for a while. If you can slop it out with a coding agent it's probably not the kind of thing
